is there anything i can do? i've had three miscarriages. NHS has been hopeless. we waited months to see a specialist; have had one appointment with him, and are still waiting for results of second round of blood tests. (it's been six weeks since we had the tests, and no word..) Preliminary blood tests reveal no problem. We have a DS (2) who arrived with no problem so the miscarriages, all around the seven/eight week mark, came as a complete shock. we have had a break from trying since my last miscarriage in Feb, but will try again in a few weeks time. is there anything i can do to improve my chances? other than folic acid, good diet, gentle exercise, etc?

Alas, theres not a lot you can do. I chose to take low dose aspirin as although my blood tests were normal I have some clinical features of odd clotting, so my GP suggested it might be worth a whirl.

Good luck

yeah, i took the low dose aspirin for a couple of months, on GPs advice, but as we were not trying it seemed a bit of a waste so i stopped.but will prob start again in the run up to TTC. last time i tried not exercising (i do quite a bit normally) just in case that would help but it made sod all difference. in fact i miscarried even earlier.

Im in the same boat. Have had 2 mmcs and starting to try again. Having seen several pg friends recently, all of whom either smoke, eat junk food and little else, or lead frantic lives, I am slowly coming to the conclusion that if it is going to be ok then it makes little difference what you do and sadly the same in reverse. All the best of luck to you.

I too took low dose aspirin when i found out i was pregnant at 4 weeks, i spoke to my GP about it,and even though she said she couldnt advise it as i hadnt had the test to say i had clotting issues, she said it may help the pregnancy. Ive had 3 mc in total, two at 7-8 weeks before i had DS, then one at 12 weeks in January this year. Im now coming up to 18 weeks pregnant and so far so good.
Good luck for when you try again kissmummy.

Hi, I had two miscarriages and tests didnt show any problems.

I read the book by Marilyn Glenville and found it useful. I didnt get the hair analysis done but did take the supplements and went on to have 3 successful pregnancies. Not sure if it helped or was coincidence and I also had acupuncture so it could have been anything! It did help me though to feel like I was doing something positive.

Just thinking though that I went on to have another 2 miscarriages though when I did nothing to help so maybe there was something in it all ....

Good luck

Some m/c are believed to be caused by the mother's blood being too sticky, causing clots in the placenta.

Low-dose aspirin may help reduce the stickness of the blood and so reduce the risk of m/c.

I'd always check with your doctor before starting though.

Thanks for that

they didnt say anything like that to mee- - but how can i be sure my bloods too thick>

do i need to go drs specifically about this and ask him about taking it?

Doctors are usually interested in recurring miscarriages (which can come over as a bit cold-hearted). You could ask to be tested for Antiphospholipid syndrome, but the doctor may recommend you just try again and see how you get on.

Poor you kissmummy. Can you press for early scans in your area?

I was in your boat 12 months ago having had 3 mcs. I was lucky and got a referral to an NHS recurrent mc specialist but by the time the appointment came through I was pg again. She scanned me every week from week 6 to 12 and hey presto, DS2 arrived in May.

I also had reflexology both to help concieve and then to help stay pg ( you must find someone specially trained in maternity reflexology though and ideally have a few sessions before you get pg ).

I think the combination of the reflexology, the weekly scans and probably having a D&C with the last of the 3 mcs helped in going full term.

Good luck with everything and don't despair. I thought I'd never hold a baby in my arms again after my third mc , but there is one fast asleep in his cot upstairs at the moment!

So sorry to hear about your losses. I had a late mc last year and when I got pregnant again took low dose aspirin as well as Cyclogest (progesterone). I now have a beautiful baby son. I wish you all the best.

Accupuncture or reflexology. I tried accupuncture because apparently it increases blood flow to the uterus and I knew someone else it had worked for. I saw a GP who was trained in accupuncture which was very reassuring as he generally reassured me about everything too. It may have just been coincidence, but who knows? Oh but it's not exactly the most pleasant thing, willingly having (16) needles stuck in you weekly!!

In the 2 cycles Ive had since trying I have MC both times. A colleague of mine at work is a retired Midwife and she has recommended half an aspirin daily, and also to take vitamin B6 to help balance the hormones.

Hi all,
we're about to try again after having a mc at 7 weeks in August. Am scared of miscarrying again and wish there was some way of knowing what to do/not do. I had a similar experience in a previous relationship 12 years ago. Now 38 and married to a lovely man and I just want to have a baby!!! I have a condition called haemachromatosis (anyone else with experience of this and pregnancy?!) but neither my GP nor my haematologist at UCLH seem to think that has any real bearing on fertility or pregnancy. I'm not sure if the aspirin idea might help, that's if we manage to conceive again. It all happened really quickly last time; my body changed extremely fast so my hormones seemed to have been rampant. Am hoping that, like most of the reassuring friends and docs say, it was just one of those things and we go on to have a baby. My panic about West Mid when I was freaking out about where to have my ante-natal care last time, has been assuaged slightly by how wonderful the EPU there was when i had the mc. They were really attentive and kept in contact with me for 3 weeks eventhough they were just monitoring hormone levels after the scan they did to confirm mc. Anyway, here's hoping : )
