PCOS experiences please, how long after your miscarriage did you ovulate/get pregnant again?

I miscarried my first pregnancy last night at 7 weeks, and am wondering now when I'll start ovulating again and how long it's likely to take me to get pregnant. We weren't even expecting to get pregnant without Clomid because I don't ovulate every cycle, and I tend to ovulate late when I do. This time just happened to O at CD18.

Any PCOS obsessive charters out there know when they next ovulated after a MC? Anyone without PCOS welcome to answer too, I just don't even know what to expect.

I think I'll probably just keep taking my temp because I've been taking it for 3 friggin' years and I'm programmed to stick a thermometer in my mouth and lie still every morning, even with a bursting bladder.

And on the MC topic, anyone get terrible fartiness? I am a human gas factory at the moment!

I'm so sorry for your loss, I miscarried at the weekend so I know how you feel.
I think the wind pops are partly because your womb is contracting and it's connected down there but I might be totally wrong.
This was my second miscarrage so I can tell you about my first. I had a normal cycle 5 weeks after my miscarrage and conceived 2 months after that. I think the best news is that your body is more fertile after a pregnancy, no matter how sadly short it was.

13 years ago I had a miscarriage due to PCOS. I then had to have a huge cyst drained, but the op went wrong and I ended up having to have an ovary and fallopian tube removed (don't worry this is rare!) However, I was pregnant again six months after the miscarriage and four months after the op.

I now have 3 dcs, aged 12, 10 and 7.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your baby. I've had three miscarriages so have some understanding of how you are probably feeling at the moment.

I also have a diagnosis of PCOS. I was initially told that I would almost certainly need drugs to stimulate ovulation, but this has not proved to be the case and I have been very lucky because I have managed to get pregnant relatively easily. However, because I have an irregular cycle (between 22 and 31 days over the last few years), I have found ovulation predictor kits to be invaluable. I know the official guidance is that that they are not reliable if you have PCOS, but they certainly can be for some people. If I were you, and you hadn't already tried them, I would definitely consider giving them a go.

I think it is possible to ovulate two or three weeks after a miscarriage at 6 /7 weeks. I'm pretty sure I did. If you miscarry later (e.g. 12 weeks), it takes longer for the pregnancy hormones to leave your body and so you may ovulate later.

Hi, sorry, don't know what PCOS is, but I am so sorry for your loss.

I had a MC though, at 17 weeks, on 8 July.

I got my first period 30 days after that. Not sure when/if I ovulated before that.

However, did ovulation tests the following month, and ovulated on day 19. Fell pregnant - just found out a few days ago.

So, all in all, from the date of my MC I conceived almost 7 weeks later.

Sarah76, I am so sorry to hear what has happened to you. I thought you might want to hear my story. As you know, I have PCOS too.

It took me 3 years to conceive DS, and I was pretty obsessive about charting etc. However, after lots of investigations and procedures I had something called ovarian drilling, which is basically what it sounds like!

Following that procedure I developed an infection and was forced to spend 3 weeks off sick from work. Having spent the month before the procedure actively avoiding pregnancy, it was a relief to flop on the sofa recovering from the op and the infection.

My endocrinologist upped my metformin dose to 850mg three times a day, and I'd lost about 10% of my weight prior to the procedure.

The following month I was pregnant. To this day, I have no idea whether it was the enforced rest from TTC, work, the ovarian drilling or the metformin but something worked!

DS is now 23 months old and I am pregnant again. In fact, although sadly I have also had 2 miscarriages this year, I appear to be ovulating regularly which I've been told sometimes happens after a woman with PCOS gets pregnant.

So there is lots of hope. But don't underestimate the emotional and physical healing required after a miscarriage. Take the time to heal. By the way, my first miscarriage this year was in March, with another in May. My last period before this pregnancy was the end of July, so I've obviously ovulated fairly soon after each miscarriage, although it has been very early on in the pregnancy each time.

You'll get there. Clomid was a nightmare for me, it made me a bit crazy. Good luck, and I'll be thinking of you. If you want the name of the consultant I saw, let me know. She is bit of an expert in PCOS.

I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage, I know what a sad time it is for you and hope things become easier. I have PCOS and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks, I then got pregnant again during the very next cycle - I ovulated about 2-3 weeks after I stopped bleeding. Unfortunately I them miscarried again and the second one was almost more painful as I wasn't prepared for two losses in a few months.

I then saw a consultant who told me that I needed to up my dose of Metformin to 2000mg/day. I did this and it them took a further 8 months of trying and charting etc to fall pregnant again. I did then get pregnant but at 6 weeks had a massive bleed and was convinced that I was going to miscarry again however somehow the little one hung in there and is now a very healthy 4 year old. I didn't have clomid myself as the doctor said it was no use ovulating when my hormones would not be able to support a pregnancy. The metformin helped to sort out my hormones which meant when I did get pregnant it was more likely to be ok. It's all such a pain, I especially remember all the lying in bed with the digital thermometer and a full bladder.

A quick update, in case anyone else finds this thread in a search:

I didn't ovulate on the first cycle after the miscarriage, but did ovulate on the second cycle. On the third cycle after the miscarriage I got pregnant again, and I'm currently 13 weeks. So from miscarriage to finding out I was pregnant the second time it only took 3 months! We were incredibly surprised, especially because we hadn't had sex all that close to ovulation (3 days before). I've heard before that the first three cycles after a miscarriage can be 'extra-fertile', certainly seems that way in my case.

Hi, just like to introduce myself and say thanks to everyone on this thread for truly raising my spirits.

I'm a PCOS-er too and I've just had my second miscarriage (1st blighted ovum, 2nd failed at 8 weeks).

I didn't know that I'd be more fertile in the next few months and this is great news!

Can I ask if any of you were/are taking Metformin though please? and if so, when after your loss did you resume the medication.

BristolFlower, I took an increased dose of metformin while trying to conceive (my story is lower down the thread) and I move to a lower dose when I got pregnant. I've continued to take metformin throughout my pregnancy, as there is evidence to suggest that it lowers the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS, and, lowers the risk of getting gestational diabetes.

I'm 37 weeks now, and although I did develop GD with this pregnancy, my blood sugars have been well controlled. I am very happy with my decision to continue with the metformin. Good luck!

I was told to stop taking at 7 weeks (when the heartbeat was detected) - I did wonder if other clinics might allow people to continue - it is certainly something I will discuss with my fertility clinic at the next appontment.

It certainly sounds like you did the right thing - congratulations on your 37 weeks, that's great.

I'll probably resume the quest (and the Metformin) in a week or so... I think I'll allow myself to enjoy the odd guilt-free glass of wine this weekend first....

When I took it with my DS in 2006 it wasn't routine and my consultant gave me the research and told me it was my decision. With this pregnancy I had a different consultant and he told me to carry on. I am seen by a diabetes consultant who prescribes metformin as a matter of routine. Good luck!

I ovulated 2 weeks after my Mc. I used a test to verify what I felt was happening! We did the deed ;)
Anyway over the weekend I felt preg. Sunday eve I did a test and it was bfp!!!! I need to say I'd done test after the miscarriage- 2 tests both bfn. So on Sunday I believed it (was 8 dpo) every test since is bfn  I feel sickly, back ache, headache, snotty nose- no sore boobs but they are bigger. Sooooo confused. It's like my body is playing a cruel trick! But what was that bfp about? Do give it time so you don't end up with this same confusion. It's horrid xx

Hello. I've just found this post. I recently had a miscarriage (3 weeks and still bleeding). It seems to be coming to an end now but I am desperate to try again for a baby. How did you all know you were ovulating after a miscarriage? My first 2 children were conceived with clomid but this pregnancy wasn't even planned! So obviously I ovulated but I'm worried now it was a one off x
