Chemical pregnancy - what should happen now?

Just wondered if anyone could tell me what should happen with a chemical pregnancy? Will it just be a later period? How long after a negtaive test will AF start? Will it need any medical intervention? Will it be like a heavy period. Sorry so many questions. (its for my sister not me and just trying to find out for her x)

This is what i posted this morning in pregnancy:

Can anyone help please. My sister has been having IUI treatment. She had a devastating MMC 4 months ago. Than had another IUI this cycle. Her period was due on saturday but she did a test on thursday morning (clear blue digital) which came up as 'pregnant'.

The hospital then gave her another test to do today but it has come out negative.

She is so so upset. She has been trying for a baby for years.

Is this likely to be a chemical pregnancy?

Any advice really welcome. Im miles away but trying to support her on the phone.

Thanks x

It's likely to be a failed implantation - basically the embryo attempts to embed but doesn't. Normally it's followed by a regular period though it may be delayed a couple of days due to high hormone levels.

Sorry for your sister - it's never easy.
