How long after miscarriage did preg test show "negative"

I think I have had a miscarriage over the past 2 days - cramping, red blood followed by brown, then black stringy clotty bits, and total absence of pregnancy symptoms.

However there has not been much blood, but I think that is because I am only about 5 weeks. GP has said no point going to EPU as it is too early in preg for a sac to show, even if I was still pregnant, and that I should just wait and do a preg test in a few days.

But I am impatient and I want to know now one way or theother - so I can either move on, or become happy again about being pregnant.

Does anyone know how quickly a negative test would show if I have indeed miscarried?

For me it was about 2 and a half weeks but if differs from person to person, I was 13 weeks and i think how fast HCG leaves your body depents on how much of it there was so the more pregnant you were the longer it'd take to get a negative hpt. It also depends on other factors such as if the MC was complete or you had a D&C and stuff like that.

my negative was pretty much immediate - as the blood started.

hmm your gp is being v irresponsible. first, im sorry this is happening, its shit and not fair at all.

call your epu and ask their advice, has the bleeding finished

I am speaking to my GP again tomorrow and he might call EPU for me after that. Bleeding has stopped now but I am still crampy. I did a test about an hour ago and it showed positive, though I know that that doesn't mean that I necessarily am still preg.

does your gp know that? you need to have a scan to rule out an ep. this happened to me, i started bleeding at 5w, not much blood but lots of stringy stuff, still getting bfps and my gp was convinced i had mc, it was only because i rang up epu and insisted on a scan that they picked up the ep. it was the only time i had taken a HPT after a "mc", and every day i thank god i did.

Thanks for the advice. I will push harder with the doc tomorrow. I have to go to South Africa on business at the end of next week, so I want it all sorted by then - and definitely any chance of an ectopic ruled out!

In answer to orignal post it has been 3 weeks to the day that I m/c naturally and I am still showing a positive on hpt.

Hi 1LP, thanks for asking after me. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

I went to the EPU on Fri and had my first lot of bloods, then had a second lot taken yesterday. I spoke to the hospital last night and they said that my hormone levels have dropped significantly (down from 116 to 44) so it is definitely a miscarriage. I haven't had any cramping or bleeding since Sat, so it is all over now I think.

Can someone please help me..I had m/c on the 12 of July n had sex in between. now I am having the symptoms of pregnancy n urine test is positive but ultrasound shows nothing in the uterus nor tube .I already started taking strong antibiotics to get it out, if it is pregnancy but to no avail.

I had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago I got a negative pregnancy test result last week but now I'm getting a positive result surely it's too early to be pregnant??? I'm just confused as to why I had a negative An now a positive

I had a missed miscarriage at 13 weeks last summer- took just over 3 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test.

I was 6 weeks pregnant when I miscarried. It took about 2 weeks from start of bleeding to get negative pregnancy test

I know it's an old post but just to throw it out there...my mc started at 6.5weeks and I'm still showing positive test results 4 weeks later. Now having weekly blood tests as my hcg levels are still high, next one in a week but hopefully I'll get a negative test before then as that would be 5 weeks since my mc started

Hi everyone, I had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago, I've taken a pregnancy test today a clear blue one and it's saying I'm 2-3 weeks pregnant? I'm worried it's just still positive because it's too early from my miscarriage

Hi @Mollyann1 - sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage this summer and my pregnancy tests were still positive until 7 weeks after my miscarriage as my hcg levels were still high

I had a miscarriage on new years day it took 3 weeks for evrything to come out i was 12 weeks i had a test done at the hospital and it came back negative . Im not having pregancy symptoms again i have took a home test shows up faint pink line but been to doctors and had blood test they said that its probably down to the miscarriage is this possible am i going crazy to think i am pregnant ?

Hello was wondering if anyone can help me I had a missed miscarriage with twins ☹️ One twin died at 7 weeks and the other 7 weeks and 4 days only found out at 12 week scan when I should of been 13 weeks! I had surgery to remove the pregnancy nearly 3 weeks ago and did a test and saw a very faint line then did a test the next day and it was a bit clearer ! Not sure if it’s just hormones still left in my body or what sad any advice would be amazing

@Mayia19 I had faint tests until about 5 weeks after my MVA. You could go to the EPU and they will do a blood draw for you two days apart to determine if the HCG is rising or falling. They did one for me after 4 weeks when I thought I was pregnant again and my HCG was 11 and progesterone 1.4 so they said it was just leftover hormone from the previous pregnancy.

@Louisgee3 hiya, I know this was a long time ago but I’m literally in your position right now with a negative pregnancy test last week and yesterday a positive, I miscarried a month ago, just had my first blood tear, was just wondering how your pregnancy turned out??? Really worried!!

I had an ERPC 15 days ago and am still getting positive tests. It's heartbreaking and so frustrating.
