Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Positive test after mmc 5 weeks ago

Hi

I’m still having very positive pregnancy tests 5 weeks after my missed miscarriage. I did a clear blue today just to see how strong they are and it says 2-3 weeks. It said the same 2 weeks ago, it seems that my hormones just aren’t budging. It can’t be a new pregnancy as I haven’t had a negative since the MC yet.

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi Lauren,

I'm currently having the same issue. I'm just over 4 weeks since I had medical management for MMC and I'm still getting positive tests. 2-3 on clear blue this week.

I went for a blood test on Monday and they said my hcg level is 189 and I'm going back this Monday to have it measured again to see if it's going down. Starting to drive me mad!

Honestly it’s so frustrating

I did a clear blue two weeks ago and it said 2-3
Today it’s still saying the same

I feel like I can’t move on or try again until I get that negative! X

I'm the same. Can you ask your doctor for a blood test to see if your levels are decreasing?

I'm still dealing with the EPU and they have been really helpful.

I’m going to ask on Wednesday when they call me to see if I’ve had my negative yet. I have read online it can take up to 9 weeks, I thought that would be for women that was much further along as I was only 10 weeks x

I read the same thing. I was 9 weeks with the baby measuring 7 so thought it would go back to normal quite quick.

So frustrating isn't it. Especially as we want to try again asap but we're in limbo.

Hopefully you get some answers on Wednesday. X

Hi both -

I personally know it's is a horrible confusing time testing positive after miscarriage.
For me it took 4 months after a missed miscarriage was medically treated. I was told it was due to some small piece of
tissue remaining after endless trips to the EPU.
Keep chasing up the EPU and Drs and be kind to yourself. For me it felt so unfair after wanting something so much not only did I lose it but my own body wouldn't recognize it was over. Hugs x

Sorry for your loss. It took 7 weeks for me to get a negative after my first mmc at 11 weeks. I'd had a d&c. Do get it checked though in case you have any retained tissue that is causing the positive. Good luck for trying again in the future.

@Laurenb2392 how're you getting on?

I went for another blood test on Monday and my hcg went down from 190 to 70 in a week so they have discharged me.

Did a test tonight and it's still positive...just hope it's negative by next Monday 🤞

Hi @Rumples I did a clear blue yesterday and says 2-3 weeks

The EPU rang today to see if I had a negative yet and told them no, they told me to come in so they rescanned me and the sonographer said they couldn’t see anything, doctors and consultants don’t know why it’s taking so long as it’s still a very strong positive so they’ve taken my bloods and said they will ring me back tomorrow with a plan of action. Just happy somethings finally being done. The one doctor thinks there is left over tissue even though they can’t see it on the scan. Keep me updated when you get your negative. Il let you know tomorrow what my bloods say x

@Laurenb2392 sorry to read about your loss, came across your post as I'm going through a MM. Being rescanned next week then will start medical treatment to induce the miscarriage so it's reassuring to hear the EPU are following it through with you, hopefully they have some answers for you tomorrow 🤞🏼

@Laurenb2392 that's good that you're being seen to at least.

Hopefully with the blood test they can give you a definitive answer to what's going on. X

Sorry your are going through this. It does feel like a cruel long drawn out version of torture doesn't it! I was 12+3 weeks when I miscarried and its taken 6 weeks to get the negative test but im still spotting/bleeding every few days which I find infuriating. It's like a reminder just incase I feel like I'm doing OK!
Good Luck with your test I hope you get some answers!
It's not fun just being left to it after miscarriage I really do think there should at least be a follow up check up or something!

Hi, I didn’t bother doing any tests after miscarriage for that very reason.
We just started to try again when the bleeding stopped.
I didn’t want anything to stop or delay us trying again.
For me, it just dragged out something that needed no more torture or faffing with blood testing and scans. I knew things would settle eventually by itself.

The one time that I did go & ask for advice due to feeling so absolutely dreadfully ill, I assumed I had retained tissue.
I didn’t bother testing then either, no point I thought.
Anyway, turns out it was a new pregnancy! A sneaky little happy surprise!

Just came here to update and maybe for some advice

I went for blood test at hospital last week and my HCG level was about 417, I went back for a blood test yesterday and the level is the same. Hasn’t gone up or down. The hospital have no idea what’s going on as they say there’s no retained tissue.

They want me back in on Thursday to scan me incase it’s a new pregnancy which I know it isn’t as I haven’t had a negative test!! And the HCG level is staying the same so it can’t be a new pregnancy.

I’m getting really worked up now I want this ordeal over with so I can try again

@Laurenb2392 so sorry you're not getting any closer to it being resolved. Surely there must be some retained tissue if it's not moving at all.

Hopefully when they see that you're not pregnant on Thursday they will come up with a plan of action for you.

Keep us updated x

@Rumples they scanned me last week and seen there was no retained tissue

The woman said on the phone if it’s not a new pregnancy we might have to just leave you for your body sort itself out!! I’m so angry

Sorry to read this OP. I think if I was in your position I'd be requesting further tests or investigations. It can't be mentally healthy for you to live your life like that! I feel the nurse was abit insensitive suggesting your body sorts itself out. Your body does take time, but you can't be left in limbo, it's the worst feeling especially when you want to move on and in your case try again!

Pickypolly · 24/11/2020 17:57

What other tests and investigators though?
At such a very very low HCG level & no evidence of retained tissue it really is just waiting now.
Frustrating as it is, there isn’t much else they can offer.

Laurenb2392 · 24/11/2020 18:27

@Pickypolly my levels aren’t dropping. They are static so I think to just leave me because they don’t know why this is happening is a poor show

Those levels are still very low.
What I’m saying is I know how frustrating and upsetting this must be for you but the whole miscarriage situation is mostly a mystery. There is so little invested in the investigation of the cause and so little known which means that there just are no answers sometimes.
No one can give you answers and there is nothing more that they can offer.
There’s no follow up, no answers, no help.

It is a poor do you are so right. It’s utterly shit actually.

@Laurenb2392 that is shocking that they would consider to just leave you to wait it out.

I feel in this day and age there should be some kind of answer or at least further investigation. Are you having your bloods taken again at some point?

Laurenb2392 · 24/11/2020 20:49

@Rumples they’re scanning me again on Thursday, they think it’s a new pregnancy but I know it isn’t unless you can ovulate whilst having HCG in your system! Il keep you updated what happens on Thursday x

@Laurenb2392 I think it is possible to ovulate with HCG in your system. Hope you get on ok Thursday and get some answers. It must be such a frustrating time for you waiting.

I have my scan Friday to confirm if definitely a missed miscarriage or there is some growth (there pretty certainly be) and the wait for that is driving me insane.
