Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Miscarriage help- hospital refused me

I went into A&E yesterday with extreme stomach cramps (felt like labour) and bleeding. They did a pregnancy test and it came back positive. I have still have a regular period every month with my last one being a week ago. I explained to them that the minimum I could be is 6 weeks and the max 13 (I had a negative test in July).
I sat in the A&E waiting room for 4 hours and then was told I could be waiting until the next day to see someone from gynaecology. I was given the option to self discharge and then make an appointment through my gp with gynaecology for today so I agreed self discharged and went home.
This morning I got a phone call from gynaecology saying that they didn't want to see me as my last period was a week ago so I'm only a week pregnant (I would have hoped they would have known this is impossible). They have told me that they are over run and I should just stay home and do a test in a week and only call back if it is positive.
I am still in a lot of pain and bleeding. I lost my last at 8 weeks and I was in nowhere near as much pain as this which is what worries me about just leaving it. I just want to know if this is common practise to not even be seen and if it has happened to anyone else?

Your bleeding last week can't have been your period as if it was you wouldn't have even ovulated yet let alone become pregnant. Surely someone working in gynaecology would understand that?!

It's definitely not right that you've been sent away and left to it, did they do a blood test to check your HCG or offer you a scan to assess how far along you are?

Unfortunately a lot of women are being treated poorly because of the pandemic, hospitals refusing surgical management of miscarriage etc but this is really really poor. Does your hospital have a EPU? If not is there another hospital with an EPU nearby you can call?

If you do manage to speak to someone, I wouldn't say that your LMP was a week ago as that's not possible and will probably make them not see you so just tell them you don't know. Could it have been implantation bleeding?

So sorry you're going through this and I hope you get some answers soon xx

I don't want to worry you either but with such extreme pain and your bleeding, surely they'd want to rule out an ectopic?

You would hope so wouldn't you 🤦🏼‍♀️

Nope, no blood tests/ scans or anything. Literally a pregnancy test and then sitting in the waiting room for 4 hours and then sent home with the promise of being seen today. I never would have self discharged if I had known they would now refuse to see me.

I was too worried about an ectopic as the pain was all on my left side which I had tried explaining to them. The pain has definitely eased since yesterday but contractions start again as soon as I stand or walk which I can't live with for the next week.

Also we don't have an epu specifically as it is all usually dealt with within the gynaecology emergency clinic.

I would go into a and e , explain you have unexplained heavy bleeding and significant pain etc. If they ask about pregnancy tell them the truth about your periods. It still needs investigating. Tbh when I had pains at 7 weeks I was only sent to a&e. I'm sorry they didn't look after you yesterday xx

You should go back to A+E and tell them again you’ve got a positive pregnancy test, you have pain on the left side which is getting worse and you are bleeding. They should see you because you could have an ectopic.

If you have no luck with them....which is totally awful imo and I'm sprty you're going through this. Can you get an early reassurance scan booked with a local private provider? They're around £50 here

I know provste shouldn't always be the option but id be worried about this too

I’d be really concerned with eptopic too. Sounds similar to mine although I wouldn’t say I had contractions just severe pain that was either to one side or pain that radiated across my pelvic area.

Go back to your GP

You're 'period' could have been implantation bleeding, miscarriage etc. My baby stopped growing at 9 weeks and I found out at my 12 week scan. After this I had unbearable about of pain, contracting every few minutes.

I can't believe the way they have treated you. Maybe go to a&e or call EPU.
