Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

12 week scan

So went today. And got told sadly baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. Which seems cruel as we had been for a scan at 8 weeks and everything was good. Heard the heartbeat. Had some cramps today. Hoping nature now takes its course. How painful is this likely to be? I don't want to go down the surgical route. But tablets are an option. How long will bleeding last for if it happens naturally? Thanks ladies

@mrsawhite sorry for your sad news :(
I am currently taking the tablets for miscarriage. We had a 7 week scan and there was no heart beat. I waited to miscarry naturally. I bled but when I had a scan this week the sac was still there. I would currently be 11 weeks.
I took the 4 tablets this morning. Which didn’t work and I’m currently taking the extra 2. I will let you know how it goes. I’m worrying because I’ve read about how painful it can be. I definitely shouldn’t have been googling that this morning.
Again, sorry about your news. It’s awful x

Thank you for your reply. Sorry you are having to go through this too. I'm not sure what painkillers are best to take when needed

@mrsawhite so far I have no pain... but heavy bleeding.
They suggested paracetamol, ibuprofen, and prescribed me codeine and an anti sickness tablets.
The bleeding is really heavy. So, hopefully it’s actually working.

Ah ok. Will go and get some ipruprofen I think. Cramping a fair bit today and pink spotting so I suppose it's good it's happening itself

@mrsawhite and @BeHereNowx32 sorry to hear you are both going through this, I found out in July at my 12 week scan and decided to have an MVA to get everything removed rather than the natural route, however they left loads of tissue in and I ended up miscarrying anyway, it was sore like a bad period, I had normal cramping and lower back pain, it ramped up when I passed a clot which can be quite large to prepare yourself for them, sorry for the graphic nature but I could actually feel the weight sitting before they came out. I bleed for around 2 weeks but everyone is different, heat pad and painkillers will take the edge off but I wouldnt plan going to far from home for a few days as it clots will fill a pad and you need to change. It wasnt as bad pain wise as I expected some times were worse than others but you will be ok, no tampons pads only and baths will help.

Hopefully it passes quickly for you both, be warned though it can take a while for your HCG levels to drop, it was almost a month for me but can take longer

@Cornflake24 sorry that you went through it all, especially after the MVA too. I did pass a large clot and had loads of bleeding. But no pain or cramps, which is making me think the sac is still there! I’ll get a scan in 2 weeks to find out, then it’s more tablets 🙄

Hope you’re doing ok @mrsawhite

I'm ok. Getting strong cramps and slight spotting today. Not sure how long it will take to progress. Would just like to get it over with now

@mrsawhite so sorry to hear your news 😔.mine was very similar to yours in term of the time frames and scans. Just to let you know I ended up in hospital for how much I was bleeding, the nurse told me I shouldn't have took ibuprofen, just paracetamol as ibuprofen can make you bleed more, I had no idea. X

Oh that sounds horrendous. I did actually wonder about the ibruprofen. I think will take paracetamol as you say. Feeling very sore. And a bit anxious about what's to come. Thank you for replying

@mrsawhite try not to worry too much, I think the pain itself is similar to strong period pain, but everyone else is different. And like others said hot water bottle really helped me. Hope all goes ok x

We moved house a little while back and can't find blasted hot water bottle. Typical. I'm so worried about what everything is going to look like. Apparently stopped at 8 weeks but not sure how big this will be. Wish it was all over

@mrsawhite keep an eye on it if it gets bad phone maternity triage, I ended up in pretty severe pain and it turned out I had a blockage of tissue in the neck of my cervix, was essentially having contractions to try remove it ended up getting it removed by a doctor after a few hours in A&E. I was throwing up and everything with pain it was so sereve

Thanks for your reply. I did wonder earlier if something like that could be happening. The cramps get really intense. But not a lot happens. Will see how the next couple of days go

Woke up early. My god things have got going. They really don't tell you quite how painful it is. And that you may as well just set up camp in the bathroom

Hi there. I’m so sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at about 7. I opted for natural as I was sure they had made a mistake. I really wish I had gone for surgery as the miscarriage was quite painful and distressing for me (although this might not be the same for everyone of course). I miscarried on the 7th of July and I’m still bleeding. Have been back and forth for scans and there is some product left but not enough for surgery so I have to keep going to check ups. I would not do it this way again. I would take the other options.

@FrankieChips I took the other option and had an MVA i still ended up miscarrying due to substantial retained tissue but also got an infection from the MVA, not sure its pleasant no matter the option im afraid

It really is painful. I have taken paracetamol but I don't think it's made any difference. Had to spend about 4 hours in the bathroom. Twice I thought I was going to be sick. So tired too. Sorry to hear about your losses. It's shit isn't it x

So sorry for you loss,

I had a miscarriage last week started to bleed 1 hour before my 12 week scan, had a scan private at 9 weeks and everything was fine. Mother nature did what it needed to and no intervention is needed.
I had paracetamol and was in pain but was bareable x

Sorry to hear. Cramps were horrendous. I thought I was going to faint. And be sick. I'm not sure what came out. But I hope that's it. Feel exhausted and awful
