How long for negative test after surgical miscarriage

I had surgical management for a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks, 2.5 weeks ago.

In the hospital they said to take a test after 2 weeks, mainly to get a date for a negative test for dating purposes if I got pregnant again straight away.

Took a test this morning and it was positive which surprised me a bit. Is this in the normal range for the hormone levels to still be reducing, or might it be a sign they didn't get everything? The hospital ward I was treated on is Monday-Friday so I can't call them for advice.

Sorry I can't really give advice, but I tested after 2.5 weeks and I had a negative test. My pregnancy had only got to about 6 weeks so probably less hormone to start with. Was it a strong line or quite faint? Probably worth testing again in a few days and give them a call if still positive. You could also call the miscarriage association for advice if you're worried.

Oh, and the advice I was given was to test after 3 weeks, so maybe don't worry just yet

Oh that's interesting, thanks Alaska. I might give it til three weeks then. It's a lot fainter than before the miscarriage, but a definite positive and if I'd taken it for TTC I'd be celebrating right now iykwim. First response, clear pink line.

Just updating this in case anyone finds it through search/Google and it's of use. Had a negative test this morning, four weeks after the surgery. The line had been getting fainter and was hardly there at the weekend so I never did contact the hospital, but just posting that all was fine. Smile
