How long will pain last??

I started my miscarriage on Tuesday, with the majority of cramping and clot passing not starting until Wednesday evening. It’s now Sunday and i’m Still having quite intense cramps that are very painful. It’s stopping me from even being able to leave the house. They don’t seem to be improving or getting less frequent. I find they start the second I get out of bed, and they intensify whenever I eat or move about, they come and go like labour pains still. I’m still bleeding heavily too but I’ve known that is to be expected for a while still. It’s just the pains I’m worried about I’m not sure how long I can take this for it’s really effecting me! I’m ready to phone emergency doctor! Has anyone got any ideas with this? Help!!

Hi love, really sorry you're going through this. I'm currently miscarrying too and it's the worst.

If you're worried definitely call any emergency number you've been given. You know your pain better than anyone and if you're worried don't suffer in silence.

Did you go to an early pregnancy unit (EPU)? They gave me a specific emergency early pregnancy number to call. They were very clear that if I couldn't handle the pain I needed to call the emergency number (not 999, it was specific to the EPU)

I had really rotten pain for about 3 days. Made me feel really sick and it was very extreme cramping and heavy bleeding. Have you taken pain killers yet? And have you passed any 'tissue'? I found I had very heavy cramps early on and it was blood and clots, then I had an ok day followed by sharp pain and that's when the 'tissue' passed. Then it started to calm down a bit.

I found a hot water bottle and ibuprofen helped at the sharp end, but if the pain is really bad and worrying you, definately call the emergency number you have.

Pp advice is good. If it were me I'd call your local early pregnancy dependant. does seem quite a long time.

Take care.

I don’t know. I don’t remember pain. Or maybe I took paracetamol regularly anyway.
I remember that it happened in waves. I had to get to the bathroom and stay there for a long while just sitting in the loo and it would just gush out for a while? Something like that. I think there was once a thread giving advice on what to do when you are Miscarrying.
I am sorry my love. You do need to go back to hospital and check things like have a scan to check that everything has passed. Also you can get very poorly if it doesn’t all come out.
Big hug.

I can’t find the thread I was thinking of. I think phone the doctor. I found the worst part the first few days, so get yourself checked.

Thank you both for replies!
Never expected it to be this sufferable. Seems cruel that is it not only mentally scarring, Its also so physically painful and eventful!
From what I’ve seen I’ve only passed blood and what I thought was clots but the clots I passed on the Wednesday were red, fleshy and a couple were as big as ping pong balls. Could this be tissue ?
They gave me a number to ring and I spoke to a lady on the phone, explained I was in the middle of a miscarriage and I was worried about something and she immediately cut me off without even finding out what, and told me to ring my gp, so I said it’s the weekend my gp isn’t open and she literally just said if I’m worried about something I should go to the walk in centre and hung up😢
I’ve used paracetamol and had a hot water bottle non stop , the ache is always there , but the proper cramping just keeps coming back like you said in waves, and my lower back has started to hurt too now! and this has been days now, I’m definitely going to ring my gp in the morning!
When I went to the scan and found out before they booked me in for another scan just over a week later but I just don’t know if I can wait that long in so much discomfort!
Sending love to you all 💕💕

Did you go to the GP? Or hospital?

I went to GP , and he basically said it probably means my body just hasn’t expelled the whole pregnancy yet so is continuously imitating the labour type sequence to push what’s left in out. He said to just wait until my next scan where they will give me options if it’s still not cleared by then, and that unfortunately just pain isn’t enough for them to think it’s infection or anything, so unless I show signs of that I should just wait until my scan 😭 I understand that, but when I’m in bed every day for 7 days now, it’s so hard! 😪
Thank you for asking and for your advice 💕

Thank you all!
Luckily pain has stopped now but it lasted 9 days 😪 had another scan and they said my body has expelled everything naturally, so to just focus on getting myself back on track.
Sending love x

Glad the pain has stopped but really they should have offered you some better pain killers. The process is traumatic enough without added pain on top. I was offered dihydrocodine which helped me a lot.

Thank you, and to be honest the EPU and my GP both seemed completely disinterested and basically told me to suck it up, when I rang both in tears from pain- after several days. I was really disappointed. 😢

Mine lasted a full week. Started having contractions last Sunday (before I knew I'd lost Baby) and they continued right the way through to last night. Thursday I ended up in A&E on a drip and the Gynaecologist pulling clots out my cervix. Got home and that night I wiped more out of me when I went to the toilet. On the Friday I had my miscarriage confirmed and was told I had a tiny little bit left inside. By a tiny bit I was kind of expecting maybe just a small clot and that would it. Oh no it was far from small!! Within the space of an hour and half I'd had to change my pad 8 times and lost 12 huge blood clots. Most of last night was spent either on the toilet or soaking my pants and pj's in cold salt water. The worst bit was when I sneezed and could feel one come out of me. I'd literally only put a clean pad on seconds ago before that and the whole thing soaked through right onto my cushion. My bathroom looked like a murder scene this morning. My poor Fella who's a Truck driver and 120 miles away was just sat helpless on the other end of the phone whilst I was crying out in pain. Although he was begging me to phone 111 and i was like no they'll think I'm being ridiculous! Think everything is out now, apart from a bit of mild cramping this afternoon everything seems to be slowing down now!
