How long do you bleed after a miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage just over a week ago. I thought the bleeding had stopped a couple of days ago yet when I woke this morning there was blood and earler I felt as if I had wet myself a little but it was fresh blood that had poured out.

I let my mc happen naturally, but i had one of light bleeding, then two weeks of heavy bleeding which tailored again towards the end. Take care x

I had a miscarriage at the beginning of July. Had bleeding on and off for 3 weeks and got my period straight after I thought the bleeding had stopped... I'm now on day 9 of my period . Seems to be quite common though.
Good luck

How many weeks were you? I was still bleeding five days after a miscarriage at 7 weeks, and my gp sent me for a scan to make sure everything was ok. The bleeding stopped the next day - 6 days in total.

I was 16 weeks and the bleeding only started after I gave birth to the baby. I thought once it stopped it wouldn't start again. I don't have any pain but maybe if it's still happening next week I should get it checked out.

Hi goingfor3, I think the length of time of bleeding can vary quite a bit but definitely get checked out if you're worried. I had mine at 11 weeks mid June and I bled for about 10 days, but I know people can bleed for longer or shorter and it can stop and start too. Have you had any scans? I had one in the middle of my m/c and it helped to see that there was more blood/tissue still to come out.

So sorry to hear this has happened to you - take good care of yourself. xx

Hi goingfor3. I am so incredibly sorry to hear about your loss. And at such a late stage. It is really unfair.
I think you can bleed after a mc for several weeks, but it can also mean, that there is material left and doesn't come out although it should (incomplete mc), or an infection. In any case a scan (maybe in a week or so) would be good, so that you know you passed everything and can try again as soon as you are ready. I had two incomplete ERPCs and it took months before it was diagnosed and it was a horrible time, so a scan is a much better option.

Thanks for your replies. I saw the baby and the placenta which was complete so everything must have come out. I guess I'm just suprised that it's stopping and starting. I had a miscarriage at 20 weeks 7 years ago but really don't remeber what the bleeding was like afterwards.

Hi all, just wanted to add to thread as am going through similar issues at mo with bleeding etc. still got a painful tummy and bleeding after a medical termination at 14 weeks (not my choice) Placenta had to be "retrieved " after i had alreday gone through the labour. On the sheet it says abby and placenta were intact .This was nearly five weeks ago, have been treated for an infection (anti biotics ran out weds.) Still bleeding and in pain but only niggly not major. GP has advised (over the phone) to go to a and e, to have scan and poss d and c. Midwife at delivery suite (again over the phone) advised that it is prob just my period. Bleeding is not excessive but def always "there" I just dont know who to believe , any advice girls ??

Laalaa - I would go for the scan to put your mind at rest and confirm things one way or the other. Did they give you a contact at the EPU? I found them more helpful. Had my first scan yesterday confirming mmc, got my next one booked for 03 Sept and will have medical intervention if not all gone by then.
Hope you are being taken good care of x

thanks jacks,
Finally went for scan and confirmed what I thought - that I still had lots of leftover material from the birth. Really angry that it has taken them so long to sort but have finally been for d and c, still sore but feeling a lot better already. Thanks for your advice x
