Hello. I recently had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and I'm really nervous about trying again and wondered when is the right time? Is there a right time?

My doctor who I trusted implicitly said 12 weeks or 3 cycles.

Sorry for your loss. I don't think there is a right time, just whenever feels right for you. They recommend you wait for one period so that you can accurately date any future pregnancy. I read some research about women being more likely to fall pregnant again within 6 months of a miscarriage but you have to go with how you feel.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Go with how you feel! It's best to have a negative test first so you can be 100% sure any future positives are a new pregnancy. The nurse at the EPU that I saw said to us that once there was a negative test that there was no reason not to try again straight away and that the wisdom about waiting until having a period first was more about dating any future pregnancies.

I don't know your particular history so there may well be a good medical reason to wait longer so perhaps it's with a phone chat with your GP if you otherwise feel ready?
Xx

Thanks for all of your replies. I still have a positive test as it's only been over a week but I do feel in the right frame of mind to want to try again. I think I will definitely wait till the test shoes negative.

Thank you all xx

I'm sorry to hear what you've been through. I was told to give it two weeks (I had a D&C at 12 weeks) and as long as the bleeding had stopped and I'd had a negative test then it was ok to start again. Obviously that's the physical side of things but if you're feeling ready mentally/emotionally then there's no reason to not try again. Xxx

Just my experience here - miscarried in April at 9 weeks, took 3 weeks to stop getting positive tests, didn’t have sex again until June (protected), started trying in October and it worked first cycle. 38 weeks right now with first baby. Good luck x

Thanks for all your positive messages! I am going to take a test and make sure it's negative before trying again x
