My missed miscarriage experience

Hey, I am new to this so I just wanted to share my experience of my missed miscarriage, I know how frustrating it is searching for a thread that relates to what you are going through so hope this helps in some way..

So I got pregnant first time, I have really long cycles, around 54 days and had been tracking my ovulation since January this year.

Fast forward to a few weeks on and we decided to go for a private scan, I believed I was 7 weeks (I know when I ovulated and had implantation bleeding but no one listened to that!) but going off my last period it was counted as 9 weeks. So we arrived at the scan so excited to see our baby however we were told that they could only see a sac, no fetal pole or yolk sac! I desperately hoped that she was wrong, we were referred to the hospital for an internal scan which unfortunately confirmed the same. The gestational sac measured 23mm so this was just a little bit too small to confirm a missed miscarriage, I was asked to come back in a week for a re scan. That next scan showed the sac was still growing but it remained empty. We were heartbroken.

I did not want to wait to miscarry naturally as by this point I was 8 weeks (10 weeks from last period) so we decided to have the treatment and was given the opportunity to take part in a research study, the Mife Miso trial.
I was given the first part of the treatment in hospital which was either Mifepristone or a placebo and then I went back two days later for the second part of the treatment Misoprostol and was sent home to have my miscarriage at home.

The morning of the second part, I had terrible sickness and slight cramping, I am not sure if I had already begun to miscarry or whether the first drug had had an effect.
After half an hour of taking the medication I started to feel cramps, my mouth was salivating I felt so sick and I knew I had already started to bleed, it was a half an hour drive home so I rushed inside as soon as we pulled up to the house and there was some blood. I had no idea it would happen so quickly. I tried to rest but I kept getting an urge to go back to the toilet and push. It was around an hour and a half after the tablet, I went to the toilet and something large dropped out, I really wanted to see what it was so I managed to scoop it out, it was around the size of the palm of my hand and was fleshy and whole, I can only presume that this was the sac. After this had passed the pains and bleeding got worse, it was really uncomfortable but all in all lasted 4-5 hours, I found it easier sitting on the toilet and letting everything come out! I had a few clots and then towards the end of everything happening a few larger bits dropped out, the pain began to ease but the bleeding continued.

This all happened yesterday, today I am still bleeding, no clots apart from when I first got up this morning but was told that was normal as I had been lying down for so long. I have been in touch with my nurse constantly and she has been so helpful and supportive it really has helped. She has said if the bleeding gets worse or the pain starts up again I would have to come back in. I am booked in for an internal scan in a few days to see if the treatment has worked and then I really really want to try again as soon as possible!

So this is my story! More than happy to answer any questions if you have any xx

A little update to my story, a few days after I stopped bleeding I must have ovulated again - around 17th May. I did a pregnancy test on Tuesday 28th May and it came out positive!

A couple of days after I started getting some twinges on the right side of my pelvis, I decided to do a pregnancy test yesterday the 31st May and it was negative.

That afternoon I started bleeding and last night I passed a clump of tissue :( I am still bleeding today. I believe it was a chemical pregnancy.

Utterly heartbroken x

Good luck op. Give yourself plenty of time to heal physically and mentally.

Do you know when group you were in for the trial? X

Thank you @Beach11 xx Do you mean whether it was the placebo or not? No I am not sure, I could probably find out if I got back in touch with the research team xx
