Still getting positive test almost four weeks on

Hi, I had medical management for MMC followed by surgery almost four weeks ago. I'm still getting faint positive tests and therefore going b ask to the hospital on Tuesday where they will go my hcg levels and I can have a chat to them.

Just wondering if anyone's been in this position? What happened?

I feel so miserable and just want closure - I had the mmc in Jan and it's now March!! Going on holiday in a week and start a new job the week after so absolutely don't want to have any more surgery.
Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry for your loss. Flowers After I had surgical management for a MMC, it took more than seven weeks to get a negative test.

Hi @DaisyF1986 I wanted to say hello and I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m in a similar position. I found out about my MMC on 3rd Feb, hand an ERPC a week later, three weeks after that I was still testing positively on HPTs so went back to my EPU where they scanned and said I had a small amount of retained tissue. They gave me misoprostol which I thought had worked but it’s been over a week and I’m still testing positively and the hospital is baffled by me. It’s been 5 weeks since my ERPC and I’m heartbroken. Going back to hospital next week for further scans but feel so sad and so lost.

Did you go back to hospital? What did they say? Hope you’re okay.

Hi, I went back again on Tuesday and waited 2 hours to see the doc who then didn't even want to see me!! Hcg came back at 30 though which I was really pleased about, they said it must just have been taking a long time for levels to return to normal. I was almost 12 weeks when I had the surgery so that makes sense. Was supposed to go back again today but got a negative result this morning so I cancelled it. So relieved. Did you have your hcg measured? Could it just be the same that it's taking a while to drop? Xx

Ah that's great to hear. I suppose I was nearly 12 weeks by the time I had my surgery so it might be the same. They didn't do bloods to measure HCG. Just took my word about the positive HPT and then scanned and saw some retained tissue so gave me the misoprostol to take home. I'm going back next Thursday for another scan and I think they'll do bloods this time to see what's going on. I thought there was a chance it might have been a new pregnancy last week but after the misoprostol I know that's not the case (secretly hoping for it though - ridiculous I know). I guess it might be taking my body a while to let go of the pregnancy hormones so I'm hoping for the same outcome as you. The thing that baffles me is that I did a HPT this Tuesday and it was negative. I was so relieved and thought I could move on. So started with the OPKs and then grew suspicious that it looked like O was coming and did another HPT yesterday and today and both were positive. Never been so gutted to see a positive pregnancy test!

Hope that you're beginning to heal, physically and emotionally. And I wish you all the best. X
