Worried about going back to work after miscarriage, any advice?

Not been a member of this site long as this was my first time becoming a Mum but then at 10 weeks 3 days I found out I had misscarried:( Ive been given a sick note and am not due back to work for a week but I feel like I can’t face going back at all. I work in a customer facing role so I always have to have a fake smile and can’t really get emotional in front of customers. On top of this were really short staffed at the moment due to colleges leaving before we have time to train new staff so I’m always rushed off my feet and don’t have time to take a moment to pull myself together. Any advice on transitioning back into work? I can’t afford not to as I want to try again asap.

Sorry for your loss.

I had a MMC at 10 weeks earlier this year. Took the week off too, as advised. The hospital were great and called each day to check on me and I spent most of the week not doing much and talking to DH about what had happened as we both worked through it, which I think massively helped.

By the end of the week I was starting to feel both physically and mentally stronger and my mind had shifted towards recovering and trying again which gave me focus. I had only told two people at work what had happened so I wasn't worried about dealing with any questions or pitying looks, just got stuck in when I got back and made sure I took regular breaks and looked after myself (easier said than done). Put one foot in front of the other until it felt ok.

Now 22 weeks pregnant and enjoying a bit of pregnancy insomnia!

Sorry for your loss :(
I had a miscarriage a month ago and had 2.5 weeks off. If you are able to, try and get a phased return put in place. This has really helped me going back to work as the days felt more manageable. I found being back at work has helped a bit as it’s a distraction and made me feel more normal. If you’re comfortable to share your news with anyone at work they might be able to offer you support too x
