Multiple losses at/before 5 weeks

I have just had my third very early miscarriage/chemical pregnancy (hate that term) this year and on top of the devastation that brings I'm really worried there is something causing them as they have all happened at around the same time.

We have been TTC for 14 months now, first loss was in late January, tested when AF was a day late and got a positive at 4+1, which on successive tests faded and started bleeding at 4+5. Second loss got a positive at 4+4 after what I thought was implantation bleeding/light period and HCG levels on bloods were low and dropping at 5 weeks and had dropped below 5 at 6 weeks. Third loss tested when 2 days late for AF and got a positive at 4+2, again tests faded and started bleeding at 5+0.

I'm going to the GP this morning to ask for referral to recurrent miscarriage clinic, but wanted to hear if anyone had any experiences like mine and a positive story at the end? I'm terrified the pattern of my losses means there is something wrong with implantation and that it's something difficult to fix.

I don't have answers for you but I wanted to say you aren't alone. I've had 5 this year all before 6 weeks. I am waiting to be seen at the recurrent miscarriage clinic although I am (I think) current pregnant with my 6th without a period since the last miscarriage!

PS... Not sure if this counts as a positive story but I am fairly certain I know the reason behind my miscarriages as it is hereditary in my family. My mother, grandmother, and great grandmother have all experienced multiple miscarriages and all of them have had children. My great grandmother and my grandma had 3. My mother had 8 miscarriages before having me.

I know how it feels to want to give up but don't. It does happen and positive stories are out there. I am a living, breathing example of my own mother's determination to never give up. That brings me comfort and I hope it does you too.

@SushiRolll your existence definitely counts as a success story! Thank you for sharing your story, and that of your family, that gives me a little hope.

Congratulations on your BFP, how far along are you do you think? Are you doing anything different?

strawberrye good I'm glad, there are so many positive stories out there. I imagine you'll be invited to the recurrent miscarriage clinic so they can find out what's happening. I'm waiting on my appointment now.

Thank you, I'm waiting on an appointment with my Dr as I haven't had a period since the last miscarriage I am concerned and want to make sure it is definitely a new pregnancy though I suspect it is!

I’ve had three before 6 weeks - 2 in a row. We are waiting for our NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic but in the meantime paid to see a private consultant. She diagnosed me with PCOS. Even though I have regular cycles they are quite long at an average of 34 days and I Ovulate late (CD 20-21) she said she was also going to test for blood clotting and thyroid too but she said highly likely that the PCOS means I have an hormone imbalance and don’t creatw enough progesterone to sustain. Her plan if all other tests come back fine is clomid and progesterone support when I get a BFP. She asks us not to try for a few months to let hormones settle and she asked me to eat a low carb diet and no alcohol. We have been a bit naughty and I’m currently on 4 DPO with good timing of BD but my GP will give me progesterone If I am pregnant again.

Obviously this is just my story but it’s interesting to know that PCOS isn’t just about irregular periods and cysts. I had three scans on my ovaries (all wih generic sonographer not specialist) and NHS never picked it up. This private consultant listened to my symptoms (I do have brown spotting from 10DPO every cycle) and had the scan turned on for literally 1 minute and could immediately see I had enlarged ovaries. She said PCOS is not black and white.

I hope this helps when you see your GP. I also hope you are looking after yourself. I know how painful it can be to see those BFPs and then have it all taken away.

Thank you for sharing your experiences @Holly5633 it's interesting about the pcos side of things. Do you mind me asking if you've had a successful pregnancy then if you've had 3 losses before 6 weeks and 2 of them were consecutive?

@strawberrye I’m afraid not yet. I’m hoping it won’t be long though... for both of us. I have no doubt it will happen eventually x

I have had two recurring in just over a year. It took me ages to conceive again because my mental health was all over the place after the first one. It’s a shame that I have to wait for a third miscarriage to happen before any tests can be done. I feel I have sticky blood condition because when I was pregnant both times I could feel a change in the blood rushing through my veins - strange I know. However, I don’t know what the doctors will prescribe me, as I suffer from inflammation of my stomach and duodenum area. My miscarriages were at 5 +3 and 4+3.

Hi my love - it's properly shit isn't it?

I'm just recovering from my third in a row - this would be our first baby. Mine were at 4 weeks, 4+5 and the most recent one stopped developing at 6+5 ish but we found out at 11+6 which was horrendous. Because of the fact we are now at three, we're being referred for specialist testing, so it's worth seeing your GP about it.

It is definitely shit @jacquesjacques that's the only word for it really. I have also been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic and have found out I am severely hypothyroid (has developed in the past couple of months so would only explain the most recent one). When are you due to be seen? We are TTC #1 too.
