Anembryonic Pregnancy/Blighted Ovum, Scared to try again...

Hi everyone!

I came on here nearly a year and a half ago when I found out I was having a miscarriage and I found it a great support to talk to other women on here.

Background story is in 2017 I found out I was expecting, felt pregnant up until the routine scan, was sadly then told it’s either an ectopic or blighted ovum. Then went back for another scan and confirmed the blighted ovum. Ended up waiting to miscarry naturally, which happened.. but then got rushed to hospital with extreme heavy bleeding. Huge blood loss.. and had to have the tissue removed by the gynocologist in a side room in a&e fast to stop the heavy bleeding. Since then I have been aneamic because of the huge blood loss.. now i am no longer aneamic but have ferritin level of 36, still quite low. I have been told that I am fine to try to conceive though because I am not aneamic anymore, anyone else have experience with low iron and ttc?

The plan for now is to start trying in December when hopefully my levels will be more optimal. It’s just my preference, I want the best start to the next pregnancy. But in a way because I have been told there is no reason why I shouldn’t try now, I feel like it’s just me putting it off until later because I am so so terrified of another miscarriage. It was the traumatising heavy bleeding etc which scared me so much.

So I have just come on here for some advice, is the heavy bleed/things not coming away etc. Common?

And because I have now had one empty sac pregnancy.. does this happen more than once? I wonder if it’s to do with chromosome abnormalities and there is something wrong with me or my husband.

We have been together 8 years, married 3...and need the next stage in our life. But I am so so so scared of miscarriage happening the same way. I would request a d&c but then you never know if you have the choice, it can happen at any moment!

I’m also emetophic so really scared of morning sickness, which I didn’t get before at a hcg of 32000.

Sorry to tell everyone my life story.. just looking to speak to anyone who this has happened to

Thanks xx

Hi OP,
Didn't want to read and run.
I don't have experience on the miscarriage you had as I had straight forward surgical management with minimal bleeding. That was following being diagnosed with a blighted ovum last summer.

I was told it was very unlikely for it to happen again and usually it's more common in a first pregnancy. Maybe a way of getting our bodies ready for pregnancy, but that's just my way of thinking.

Anyway, I am currently 32 weeks pregnant. The first scan was petrifying but at 7 weeks we saw a heartbeat and everything was progressing as it should and has done so far. I still feel anxious but I think that's normal after a loss.

I hope you find the strength to try again and when it does happen, I wish you a very healthy pregnancy x

Thanks so much for your reply!!

How long after your miscarriage did you start ttc?

I worry that I have left it so long that my body will forget and the same thing will happen.

Your positive story has given me hope.. congrats on the pregnancy x

Hi, I had MMC and BO

I waited a good while to ttc.

Conceived exactly a year to the date of previous conception.

My 10 mnth old is fast asleep next door.

@Hayley220 I had an anembryonic pregnancy diagnosed at 10 weeks (although my diagnosis was missed miscarriage). I just want to reassure you that there is absolutely no evidence to suggest you are more likely to have second anembryonic miscarriage if you have already had one. This is what I was told, and that the likely cause of the miscarriage was chromosomal abnormalities. I was also told I could try again straight away and although we haven't conceived yet I'm not worried about a second miscarriage (well, I am a little but no more than any mum who went through such a traumatic experience)- the statistics are reassuring. I found the information given on the miscarriage association website particularly helpful.
