First of all - apologies if this is a duplicate post. I wrote a giant post out not long ago and now I can't find it. 🤦♀️ This will potentially get long and TMI. Sorry for that.
I went for a private abdominal scan on September 16th when I should have been 8+3. Saw babyblob and saw and heard the (apparently very strong) heartbeat. Only measured 7+1 though which worried me but the sonographer said it wasn't uncommon to be a week out at that stage and wasn't concerned. Google backed her up.
On Wednesday 19th morning I had some spotting so rang EPU in a panic. They were unconcerned and said only to ring back if there was pain that didn't go away with paracetamol or clots, otherwise it was entirely normal. None for the rest of the day or Thursday, bit more spotting Friday morning but stopped again before lunch. None over the weekend. Started again Monday, rang EPU again who said to ring back in 24 hours if I got pain or it got heavier. Tuesday I was still spotting but it didn't stop all day (although it was only when I wiped - no 'need' for a pad) so I rang EPU again. They told me to go to A&E which I did. Dr was very kind but said even though it was a threatened miscarriage, there was nothing they could do (it was midnight by this point so fair enough!) but made me an appointment at EPU for a scan on the Thursday. No bleeding/spotting at all Wednesday or Thursday morning.
The sonographer at EPU confirmed she could see the baby but that unfortunately it had no heartbeat and measured 8+4. By early scan dates I should have been 8+6 that day (LMP 10 weeks). This was confirmed by a second sonographer/nurse. We were taken to a private room, given a leaflet with the various options in but told they advised the 'wait and see' option as the first line, took my pregnancy notes off me and sent me home. No follow up appointment made, just told to do a pregnancy test in 3 weeks (so another 2 weeks from today).
Since then I've been spotting on and off still. Haven't needed a pad at any point (although I'm wearing one!) and no pain or cramps. I did get a pinching sensation a few times yesterday but nothing that has made me think 'ouch, that hurt'. Basically I spot on an evening, there's a bit more when I do my morning wee and then nothing more for the rest of the day.
My body still thinks I'm pregnant so I still have constant nausea/food aversion etc.
How long should I expect this to go on for? At which point do I ask to see someone? Do I ask to see someone? Is this normal?
