Abdominal pain and a Chest Pain- please help!

I really don’t know what’s going on..

2 and a half weeks ago when I should have been 6 weeks pregnant I ended up in the epau as has been bleeding and cramping for a few days plus brown spotting every day from 4 weeks. It’s was confirmed if miscarried as they didn’t see any sign of a sac, just my uterus was full of blood and my lining was very thick. My hcg levels that day were 1500 and something and a week later were 341 so confirmed miscarriage.

I bled for another 9 days after the day of the scan which ended early last week. I thought that was the end of it.

Saturday afternoon I was in Morrison’s and suddenly got severe abdominal pain and shortly after started bleeding again although not heavily. Ended up at the hospital and sent to gynae Ward who examined me and said it was probably inflammation from some tissue left behind. They did not do a scan so can’t be completely sure but sent me home with antibiotics in case of infection. What’s weird is I’ve also got really bad chest pain and random pain in both shoulders as well as abdominal pain and lower back pain. It feels a bit like someone’s sat on my chest. The pain isn’t getting any better and really fed up now. Both the gynae Ward and epau has told me to do a pregnancy test this coming Friday and ring if it’s still positive. I last did one two days ago and it was still positive.

Not sure what to do now as don’t know if this pain is normal or not? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Go straight to A&E.

Agree - these sound like they could be symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. Please go to A&E now. Flowers

Really? I was in A&E Saturday night but they didn’t seem concerned and didn’t bother scanning me. An ectopic did cross my mind but the pain in my abdomen, chest and shoulders is on both sides and the bleeding isn’t very heavy. The chest pain didn’t get bad until I left the hospital so I only mentioned it to the ambulance technician. It just feels like my uterus is swollen and pressing on my chest or something.
Just want something for the pain :(

Go to A&E and tell them you have possible symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy and it’s an emergency. Please.

I agree, 999 or a&e. Are you on your own? If so 999

Thanks everyone. My abdominal pain hasn’t got any worse since Saturday, it’s more the pressure on my chest that’s bothering me. I’m just worried it will be a waste of time going to hospital as they seemed to dismiss my symptoms Saturday and nothing has really changed. I would have thought if it was ectopic they would have seen it at the scan I had at 6 weeks and the pain would all be on one side. I think I will call the gynae Ward for advice first.

Did you speak to them OP?

I haven’t rang yet, just can’t decide what to do. I’m supposed to be at work tmrw and only just started this job 2 weeks ago so really don’t want to have to ring in sick yet. The pain isn’t as bad as this morning and jst did a pregnancy test and whilst still positive it’s fainter than Sunday’s so maybe that’s a good sign? Got heart palpitations again though like I did on Saturday.

Go to A&E.

Call them, call 111 or go to A&E.

If you go/call, the worst thing that can happen is you’re all fine and waste a few hours getting some reassurance.

If you don’t call, you could end up really seriously ill. Ectopic pregnancy can kill if not detected.

Well I just rang the number I was given for the gau and they didn’t seem concerned at all, said the fast heart rate and chest pain could be anxiety which I know it’s not! They didn’t seem to think the chest problems were related to the abdominal pain I had Saturday so said to seek medical advice if it gets worse. Totally pointless phone call! Think I’ll wait til tmrw and try epau.

Well if you do start to feel any worse or you get pain in the tips of your shoulders make sure you get urgent help.

I hope you feel better soon!

I thought I’d Update: it did turn out to be an ectopic pregnancy! I rang the gau/early pregnancy unit a few times last week and nobody seemed concerned about my symptoms. Eventually I was told to come in Friday evening just for a blood test to check my hcg levels. Saturday morning I get a call to be told they were 500 odd when they were only 341 2 weeks earlier so had started going up again! Had a scan yesterday morning and they finally saw a mass in my left tube so had emergency surgery where I had the tube removed along with leaking blood. Apparently I was ‘lucky’ that the blood from the tube rupturing had mostly clotted which explains why I didn’t have heavy bleeding. Glad I finally have an answer just still upset that I was sent home from A&E a week earlier without any further tests.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I think it might be worth contacting PALS to get some answers.

Wishing you a swift recovery.

I didn't even know these were signs of an ectopic pregnancy so good to read. Really sorry to hear you've gone through it though. I think you just know when something is wrong and you have to keep on at medical professionals. I hope things get better for you now.

I’m so sorry you’ve been through this and they didn’t take you seriously the first time. I’m shocked really that they didn’t consider investigating the possibility of ectopic when you presented with abdominal and shoulder pain in early pregnancy Sad I agree a call to PALS might be warranted.

So glad you’re on the road to recovery now though, wishing you all the best FlowersFlowers

Thanks everyone. I will definitely be contacting PALS. There were at least two occasions where they could have found the ectopic but didn’t. It turned out that they had seen something in my left tube but thought it was just a bit of pregnancy tissue. If they had monitered me from then my tube could have been saved. Just feel like I wasn’t taken seriously when I was taken to A&E either which makes me upset.
