Pregnancy of Unknown Location

Hi all,

Last night I went for an early scan at 7+3 as I'd had some brown bleeding, hadn't felt pregnant and had experienced some cramping. Sadly, the sonographer could only see what she thought was the gestational sac (or a cyst?) but no baby. Thickened womb lining in line with an early pregnancy. Obviously we are devastated but now I have to go to the GP this morning and see what the plan is. The sonographer couldn't rule out ectopic completely but couldn't see any signs of it on scan. So it is just down on my form as 'pregnancy of an unknown location.'

I'm feeling a bit scared as to what will happen now. We are supposed to be going on holiday (this country) on Friday. What will happen now? Can anyone share their experiences with me please? I'd be so grateful.

Such a crap evening sad

This is what they said to me when I first had pains and spotting. My scan didn't show anything apart from a tiny ruptured cyst. Internal checks showed my cervix was still closed and I had to go in get a blood test wait another 48 hours to get another so they could check hcg levels. Mine had dropped and was told I'd miscarried. I know how devastating it is, hope this helps. Stay positive. X

This happened to me last year! They kept doing my bloods to see if the pregnancy hormone was going down ( sign of the pregnancy dissolving itself) but mine were going up and down every few days. I think in a normal developing pregnancy they double every 48hrs?! Anyway i was re scanned a few times over a week or so but nothing could be seen so they gave me a methotrexate injection to dissolve the pregnancy still monitoring my bloods every other day to check my levels until they hit zero.. this took about a week. I am really sorry you are going through this and hope you are under the care of a lovely team as was i. I was refered to a local early pregnancy unit though not my GP from the initial scan x

Thank you very much for the replies. I'm on my way to the EPU now where they will scan me and then I'll speak to the doctors there to come up with a plan. I don't know why but I haven't cried this morning - feel a bit tired and numb. My husband has cried this morning - I think he is finding it harder than me. Maybe because he had some hope where as I knew something wasn't right. Appreciate you sharing your experiences. X

I was the same.. the emotion hit me at the end, i had to go to see my GP to be put on contarception when my levels hit zero as you are not allowed to conceive for some months after methotrexate treatment and i just broke down on her -for those past few weeks i had some how just kept going and before being signed off work after the methotrexate i had been going in every day as normal and no body had a clue what i was going through. You have a tough journey a head of you guys but i promise you will come out of the otherside. Take care xx

Long day... went to EPU. They did pregnancy test which was positive but faint, scab which showed the same as private one and then I saw doctor who did bloods. Have repeat bloods on Friday but I think the hope is that things are resolving themselves naturally as I have started to lose some red blood with a few clots now. Feel really sad and kind of stupid for feeling sad over something which never really developed. However, I'll be glad if no methotrexate is required or surgical management.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. Really not a nice time but it helps to feel I'm not alone. X
