First pregnancy miscarriage. Could it be more common?

Hello everyone,

My name is Jess, I'm 28 and I just went through a miscarriage. I was 5 weeks and 5 days when the bleeding started. I feel so sad about it, but I'm trying to get some hope. So many questions are going through my head. Btw, I'm sorry if my English looks odd, it's not my main language.

My mom had 5 children and never miscarried any of them, well atleast not to her knowledge, I know it can happen very early sometimes and some women didn't know. However, my grandma miscarried her first pregnancy. I have no idea how many weeks she was, she sadly left this world, so I can't ask her, but she had 4 healthy children after that. My aunt lost her first pregnancy too, than became pregnant again a month after and had a good pregnancy. She gave birth to 4 children in total, with a miscarriage between two healthy pregnancies, and two more miscarriage after her 4th, she was around 27 when she had her first miscarriage and she was around 34 when she had the last. My little sister, which is 6 years younger than me, miscarried her first pregnancy too. She was at the end of her teenage years. She then had 2 healthy baby boys, another miscarriage after them, and got a baby girl after that.

With all this information, I wonder if it doesn't run in my family, since my grandma, my aunt, my sister....and now me...we all miscarried our first pregnancy. My mom was lucky to never experience it. I still wonder if it can be a family thing, if it is pure bad luck or if it could be more common to miscarry a first pregnancy in general ? Does anyone know if miscarriages are more common among first pregnancies ?

Apparently it's 1:3 pregnancies end in miscarriage.
None of my family had first pregnancy miscarriages.
I had 7 in total.
I am the only one in my family to have this happen to them.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage.
I think it's just more common than people think, so it's not surprising that there have been others in your family who have also had a miscarriage.

Having said that, there are some medical issues that run through families. The women on my mums side all have fertility issues. I have endometriosis and my mum and sister both suffer with ovarian cysts. Myself and my sisters have all had miscarriages (I think 4 miscarriage out of 7 pregnancies).

I was the only one that miscarriage on the first pregnancy though. My sisters both miscarried after they'd had their first baby.
