Missed miscarriage: had medication but not worked: what now?

Woke up on weds with some minor spotting. (Was 8w 5d) Went to EPU to be told no heartbeat and possibly stopped growing a week ago. Would have liked the surgical option but told I couldn't be booked in for another 8 days for this. Consequently we went for the medication route with Misoprostol which I had on Thursday. 48 hours later and have had nothing other than some minor brown spotting. In essence it hasn't worked.

As it's not an emergency I can't speak to anyone at the clinic until Monday to discuss options. I don't really want to wait another 8 days for surgery but at a bit of a loss as don't really want to wait for nature to take its course either!!!

Anyone been in a similar situation. Did medication work the second time? Or if you went for the natural wait and see route how long did it take? Just want this to be over now!!!!

Hi
On my first mc I had already started spotting when I took the misoprotol. That all happened in one day.
Second time round unfortunately my reassurance scan at seven weeks confirmed no hb etc. I had no spotting etc yet. Took the misoprotol a few days later. Had cramps and some bleeding but I 'knew' beyond a shadow of a doubt that it hadn't happened yet. Went for second dose after 5 days, again cramping and bleeding but just didn't feel like the pregnancy had passed yet. Was booked in for another scan after 5 days as they said they couldn't do a third dose. However on the morning of the 3rd day it just all kicked off again on its own and I passed the pregnancy.
Sometimes our bodies just take a while to realise what is happening. I was a nervous wreck and basically put myself on house arrest for the days where I knew it hadn't completed yet. It was a bit of a faff but I physically recovered very quickly.
Take it easy on yourself. I think I remember the handout saying that they would only consider it hadn't worked after 5 days. I hope for you that it just happens soon. I am very sorry for your loss.

Thank you @Miami81. Glad to know that it can take a while. If you don't mind me asking when you finally passed it was it quite heavy and dramatic or more gradual? Thanks

On the morning that it eventually happened the bleeding that had just been like a period picked up significantly. Cramps as well. I went and sat in the bathroom for a while, took all my painkillers and when I passed the pregnancy it was only after around 20 mins.
I think all the bleeding over the previous week had gotten rid of most of the lining and it was just the pregnancy sack itself that was left on that morning. So it wasn't as intense as the first one. But I still couldn't have been anywhere other then on the loo.

I had a MMC picked up at 9 weeks. Had to wait a week for confirmatory scan. Was keen to avoid surgery as have a history of adhesions, so had medical management 10 days ago, after which I had a partial response- passed sac but were still products remaining. The options after this are expectant management or erpc. We decided to wait and see what happened- I had some further bleeding but there was still products remaining and I had a fever so had erpc on Friday. I’m just glad it’s over now tbh, on antibiotics for infection but feel much better already.

Thanks@Miami81 that's reassuring to know if happened quite quickly.

@Paranormalbouquet I think we were both on the September due date board? Glad to hear you are sorted. I had no idea how long and drawn out the process can be. Was the ERPC ok?

I think we were! Sorry to see you here too.

It really can drag can’t it, I’ve found the waiting terrible. The ERPC was fine, I had quite bad infection so there wasn’t much choice (that’s unusual I believe, especially if no effect from the misoprostol) but the procedure itself was fine. I’m a bit tired and bloated but that should pass quickly I hope.

Argh this is so horrible! Went for another medical management on Monday and again nothing at all. So frustrated right now! I still feel pregnant and symptoms are still here: why can't my body just crack on and do it's thing!

Sad thing I'm trying to keep busy and was in a cafe today and suddenly starting thinking about when I'd start my maternity leave and then suddenly snap out of it and realise there will be no baby. Just feeling a little sorry for myself I guess.

Booked in for the ERPC but a bit apprehensive after your experience@Paranormalbouquet. Just want this to be over now!!

@maxiflump don’t worry, the ERPC was the easiest part of the whole experience! I feel so much better now. Infection was before erpc so related to incomplete miscarriage rather than surgery.

Sorry maxi it’s a horrible experience Flowers
I had 2 medically managed miscarriages which were both unsuccessful. Had one on the Monday, sent home. Loosing lots of blood on the Friday so went to hospital, was given another go on the Friday evening- still unsuccessful. Saturday lunchtime a lovely doctor (WARNING tmi coming up) actually pulled the pregnancy from me all intact. I was given antibiotics again and from there everything resumed to normal.
