Miscarriage Happening Now - any advise?

Hi,
I was 5 weeks and a few days pregnant and yesterday started spotting brown blood.

I went straight for an internal (dildo cam) scan (I had two done in two different hospitals) and neither saw any sac.

I had my bloods done and my levels are 29 and I need to go for the second round tomorrow.

This morning I am bleeding more heavily, much like a normal period.

I know I'm miscarrying and the baby is long gone. My question is what should I do? I've been signed off work until Monday.

Is it simply a case of resting up and waiting? Should I be on painkillers? Should I be doing anything specific? At the moment I just have period like cramps.

I hope that my blood test tomorrow revels no hormone present at all, so we know it's not eptopic.

Would my uterus be empty yesterday morning if the miscarriage had already started?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions

Tarton

I'm so sorry this is happening to you 💐 The first miscarriage I had was at a similar stage to yours but I didn't have a scan as I was away with work. It was very similar to a period though, just a wee bit heavier, and there was no sac to pass. I didn't need any pain management that time either. Everyone is different but as long as they find it's not ectopic I would hope that it shouldn't be physically too bad for you. Emotionally can be another story though so I hope you have some support?

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping it's not eptopic too but the two obs and gynaecologists say I'd have experienced more pain.
Some support but my husband is away so just friends offering to pop over. Just sitting and waiting :)
I never get any period pains so for me these pains, though mild, are unusual. Need tea and some trashy TV!

A chemical pregnancy is very common around the 5 week mark I think - which is what I had - it doesn't suck any less but it does mean there's not much to pass and the pain wasn't too great. Fingers crossed it's the same for you. Absolutely - feet up, rubbish on tv and as much chocolate as you feel like I reckon! I'm glad you have friends there in case you need them.

Thanks BigBadBoom - currently
watching the Notebook. Exhausted and emotional and just hoping this won't affect my future chances of going full term...

I had an mc at just shy of 6 weeks many years ago. Obviously I'm no doctor but I just wanted to offer support and experience - I bled for about a week , I had period like cramps for the first couple of days of the bleed. I had a scan after the bleed had stopped and my body had "cleared out" without need for intervention.

Take painkillers , rest and go easy on yourself. A loss is a loss and they all hurt equally.

Also I went on to have a sucessful low risk pregnancy after my mc so please try not to worry about the future right now.

Take care op Flowers

It shouldn't affect your chances, its very common (not that that makes it any less rubbish). I had two miscarriages, one chemical and one missed, and am now 20 weeks pregnant. The good thing with a chemical is that I believe you go straight back into ovulating like normal so there's no reason why you couldn't try again straight away if you wanted. I felt a bit emotionally bruised though, so waited a while!

P.S. The Notebook?! I'm almost bawling just thinking about it...

I really hope I wasn't being insensitive there, I just wanted to reassure you (without being a doctor) that an early miscarriage like this doesn't mean you won't go full term later. I really feel for you.
