Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Has anyone had 3mcs+ then a healthy baby?

I had a miscarriage at 4+4 in Feb last year, then took a break from ttc as was getting married. Conceived again first try in January then a natural mc at 5 weeks in Feb. Conceived again straight away in March.

I had a scan last week when should have been 7weeks+ but scan showed a 5-6 week pregnancy (gestational sac and yolk sac). I have to be rescanned next week in case my dates are just wrong, but I don't see how they can be 2 weeks out so am devastated and preparing for the worst.

This means I've conceived and lost the baby every time we've tried. 3 cycles, 3 miscarriages. I'm 30, bmi is 20.5 (perfect), hypothyroid but treated and tsh levels 1.5 (also bang on).

I know I will be referred for testing now but I just wondered whether this has happened to anyone else and it was just bad luck? Did you go on to have a successful pregnancy and if so did you need treatment?

I'm half clinging on to hope that this one will be ok but know deep down that it isn't and want a plan of action.

Sorry you're going through this again. I had 6 unexplained miscarriages before having a healthy DD last year and I'm a lot older than you.
All I can say is don't give up hope, wishing you all the best for your scan 💐

Thank you so much for replying jellymum. So sorry for your losses and congrats on your daughter- so good to hear you had a positive outcome. Did you have tests/treatment or was it just a case of keep trying until one stuck?

Yes, 2 mcs then ds, a further 5 mcs then I had ds 2 at age 43!!

No treatment just kept at it! Conceived whilst on a relaxing holiday, we'd actually resigned ourselves to the fact we'd be childless and then one little one stuck!

Sorry for your losses harriet.

I could almost have written your post word for word, right down to the hypothyroidism. I had three miscarriages, had private treatment with Dr Shehata for elevated natural killer cells, had my first DD in may last year and second DD due in August.

Don't give up.

Yes, 6mc (2 missed miscarriages) 3 DC, some stuck, others didn't, no cause found, no treatment. I tried to think of them as my body being efficient and clearing a pregnancy that wasn't meant to be (a chromosome problem, or similair) rather than it letting me down by not being able to hang on to them, if you see what i mean.. (Helped me anyway).
Have strength and keep going. When i went to the multiple miscarriage clinic at St Mary's the walls were plastered with pictures of babies successfully conceived by previous patients.. Gave me hope. Good luck

Yes! We were tested after our 3rd. Nothing was found and I'm now a mum to 2 gorgeous children a boy and a girl.

Me too, 3 mc's and then DD who is now 8 years old. Had testing after the 3rd but nothing found and no treatment. Sorry for your losses OP, hope the positive stories give you hope

Thanks so much for the positive stories - they really are helping.

I'm focusing on the fact that I seem to be able to conceive easily (so far) which is a huge blessing, and better to mc earlier rather than later I guess. Will keep trying.

snoopy is there any link between autoimmune disorders and NK cells or was that just a coincidence? There are a lot of autoimmune problems in my family - hypothyroidism, coeliac, diabetes etc and no one has had any trouble with fertility. Was it easy to get an appointment with Dr shehata?

I had my dd after 4 previous failed pregnancies. The first an abortion at 14 weeks due to development problems in the baby, then 3 miscarriages. We now have a lovely 5 yo and her little brother was born without any further issues 2.5 years later.

Thanks again for the replies. Surprised by how many of you have had multiple mcs with no explanation - it's so tough isn't it. I feel like I'm so disappointed in my body not being able to do the right thing, and have just been obsessively googling all the possible causes for days and crying. Driving DH mad who is very pragmatic and just thinks we'll try again and it'll be fine. Meanwhile I'm imagining never being a mother, regretting taking a year off ttc (naively assuming first chemical pregnancy was a one off) and wondering whether it's worth taking every vitamin under the sun. Feel like I'm totally losing the plot.

Yes. I had 3 miscarriages in 11 months and got pregnant with dd three months after the last mc. She's now 5. I took aspirin in my fourth pregnancy. I was 43 and 3/4 when she was born :)

My mum had four or five MCs - and four kids. It also took her over 6 years to get pregnant the first time (with me), then got (accidentally) instantly pregnant after with my brother, then had several MCs, then my two siblings were born. All of us healthy.

I had 4 mc and then my 2 dd. I always conceived easily and was warned I would probably have mc trying for number 2, but not the case. I had all the tests that came back clear and dd1 was a difficult pregnancy with lots of bleeding. Be positive, it does happen!

I read an interesting article about hyper- fertility. Both a friend of mine and I fall pregnant very very easily, always conceive first time of trying but miscarry frequently too. There is a theory that you can be very very fertile and therefore get pregnant when most people wouldn't with a poor/damaged egg etc so it might take more time for a healthy one

A friend of mine had five mcs in a row over the course of about 18 months.
Then three healthy babies in a row.

1 mc, then dc1. Another 2 mcs in consecutive cycles, then dc2. Gap of few years with no ttc, then a further 3 mcs, then a year of nothing (unusual, as had previously conceived quickly), then, very much against all expectation, dc3.

I have Factor V Leiden and MTHFR mutation, but have had full-term pregnancies without heparin and miscarried with, so not sure of the real impact (although dc3 I had heparin throughout, from pretty much the day of the positive test). My NK test after mc 6 was negative and my and dh's karyotypes (done after mc no. 5 proved to have been from a rareish chromosomal anomaly) are typical.

This has also given me hope. Miscarriage around 4 years ago (unexpected pregnancy) didn't try again. Then ectopic,missed miscarriage and miscarriage all in the space of 12 months. Currently part of a scratch in miscarriage trial in Coventry and undergoing investigation at local RMC. I'm so sorry for all your loses. Xx

Sorry for your loss. I have autoimmune disease Hashimotos under active thyroid and coeliac. I had 6 MCs despite my thyroid being under control tsh 1. I had a successful pregnancy with support, steroids, clexane and cyclogest. All recurrent miscarriage tests were clear however the consultant believed that my immune system was the cause. It might be worth considering as you mention auto immune issues are in your family.

Thanks wombletor I think you're right. We have the whole cluster of autoimmune diseases in our family. No one has had recurrent mcs but I think probably because most developed their conditions in middle age (all in my mum's generation so far) so had already had children. Did you see someone on the NHS?

Hello. It does happened. Had 3 miscarriages and investigation that highlighted no reasons. When pregnant with my ds had steriods and aspirin..he is now 12. Further miscarriages and then a dd (on steriods at time for a chest infection dont know if that helped) dd is now 5. 3 further miscarriages since and we have decided to stop trying now. We are very lucky and there is always hope.
