Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Negative pregnancy test but positive opk

Hi just looking for some advice... I had my negative pregnancy test today (if I was hoping it was a positive then there would have been the squintiest squinter) after my mmc which was managed surgically on Tuesday- started to loose the baby on Friday.

I used an early response pregnancy test and have been tracking the fall in hcg on these all week(heartbreaking)

I did an opk today with same fmu and it's coming up a fairly strong positive! I usually ovulate around day 14 of my cycle so I'm assuming that this is not ovulation but is just left over trace of hcg but if that's the case why negative hpt?!

Any thoughts??

Hi Tigger, I'm so sorry for your loss. I've read that it's actually quite possible to ovulate very quickly after a miscarriage, although I'm not sure how quick. However, you do mention that although the test was negative, there was the faintest of lines? This therefore may suggest that there are some very low levels left, possibly causing the positive opk? I experienced a faint positive pregnancy test after my mc and when I tested again a week later there was nothing at all so maybe try testing again in a few days? Are you keen to ttc again if this in fact a positive ovulation result?

Hi emvy, yes we're keen to try again although not putting ourselves under undue pressure this month. I'll keep on with the opks and see what happens. Just want to get my body back on track now. So sorry to read about your losses too x

That sounds like the perfect plan Smile just see how things go. It's very early days yet and will probably be a while before your cycle is back to normal. Best of luck x

Hi hewisek you should go to Boots and buy the early response test that gives you the results with words ('pregnant' or 'not pregnant'). I found these easiest to read to confirm that I was pregnant.

The colour of the control line won't make a difference at all. The pregnancy test definitely isn't positive I'm afraid. You need to see another line for a positive. I would suggest from what you've posted that you are ovulating, or are within that window, and are not pregnant, regardless of symptoms. I don't use the ovulation tests myself though. If your symptoms continue I would test again for pregnancy in a week. Don't worry about your English, it makes perfect sense. You could however post these onto the main board so that more people see it. Best of luck to you x

Yes that should happen. The darker the line on an ovulation test, the more likely it is you are ovulating (or be about to ovulate). This will then get lighter presumably after you've ovulated. When the ovulation tests are showing positive you should have sex and hopefully you will catch ovulation and fall pregnant. This will then usually show up on a home pregnancy test about 2 weeks later (although sometimes it takes longer). This should also be the time when you get another period if you are not pregnant. This is, of course, all in an ideal situation and it is important to remember that every body is different and therefore timings of ovulation and menstruation are different for everyone. I hope that is clear for you Smile
