Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Miscarriage without positive pregnancy test?

Name changed as I'm not ready for this to be linked to my normal profile yet.

Day 2 of my period today, it was a little clotty yesterday, and then today I've had lots and lots of flooding (super plus tampon being full in an hour) and huge, handful sized clots, as well as medium and smaller sized ones throughout the day.

We have been TTC for about a year. Is it possible that I was pregnant but just didn't get a positive test? I've done several over the last week, all negative.

Has anyone else experienced bleeding like this? Were you pregnant/having a miscarriage?

I had some light-ish cramping this afternoon but otherwise no pain at all.

Forgot to say, I would have been about five weeks along.

Chemical pregnancies are tbh shit.
Sorry but sounds like that's what you have experienced. .

It's sounds like a possible miscarriage but I guess you will never know for sure now which probably makes things harder. I would advise using pads rather than tampons just in case it was a miscarriage as that's what the doctors say. Go and see your GP and see what they say - they might want to do blood tests to check HCG level. Hugs to you xxx

I thought as much. I am disappointed that it didn't stick, but more checkinf if I was pregnant (albeit chemical) or if I had something else really wrong with me.

Info that I've found online has not been especially clear.

I've switched to pads this afternoon as well, I was at work most of the day (rather inconvenient and messy) and bought some on the way home.

Sorry you're going through this. I have had multiple early miscarriages and an abortion at 10 weeks (i will not go into detail but it was v clear what was passed) and never had "handful sized clots" i think if you're bleeding and passing such sizeable clots at a stage so early a test hasnt detected HCG then you need to seek medical help. So sorry for your loss. Take care.

Thanks msgrinch. I will call the GP/nurse tomorrow for advice.

It seems to have stopped being so heavy now (12 hr after first flood), the clots are much smaller and not frequent.

Yes you can absolutely going through a miscarriage with negative pregnancy tests. Only a doctor can confirm it but it did happened to me. I ended up in E.R and after blood tests and a thorough pelvic exam the doctor confirmed I was experiencing a miscarriage. I never had any positive tests since I was about 4-5 weeks at the most. The HCG remained too low to be detectable on a pregnancy test. Hence why they tend to check with blood samples.

Sadly it is a sad reality. I strongly recommend a visit with your family doctor to ensure everything is fine. Sorry for your loss.
