Will I miscarry? Growth but no fetus at 8+5 weeks

Hi all, Sorry for the pragmatic description but I've had a lot happen over the last couple of weeks and it is the easiest way to get it down.

I'm currently 8+5 pregnant and being treated at my local EPU. It looks like something is happening but much slower than my dates suggest. I'm very sure of the date of my LMP, and was ovulation testing. I had a positive pregnancy test as soon as I missed my period (fairly regular 30 day cycle).

I went for an early scan following some spotting and lack of symptoms at 6+6, which showed an empty sac with no yolk or fetal pole/heartbeat.

Booked follow up scan and went on holiday (to my parents so not too far and had support) in the meantime for some rest.

Whilst away I had some bleeding which was brown turning to bright red and like a heavy period, and started feeling very dizzy and tired. (Bleeding started on the day of my first scan, red for approx 5 days, and I still have brown CM now). So this weekend (still on holiday, now 8+3) I went to the local EPU and was scanned again, this time showing a sac with yolk, but no fetal pole. Sac has grown from 6.5x5.4x5.8mm to 15x13x11mm. They also did a blood test (which my home hospital didn't ) and hCG is measuring over 17,000.

I was supposed to have my follow up scan with home hospital today but they have rescheduled for next week. They are also reluctant to do blood tests (I'm not sure why) so I am trying to get one done with my GP so I can see if my hCG is increasing or decreasing (obviously if it is decreasing I know to probably prepare myself for a miscarriage)

I'm looking for some reassurance and somewhere to talk about what I'm going through at the moment! Hopefully someone has experienced something similar? I've got so many questions which the hospital can't answer; Should I expect to miscarry? Is there any chance this will turn into a viable pregnancy? If it does continue would the fetus be healthy?

I know that the outcome is very much a wait and see situation but any thoughts would be useful as I feel like I'm in limbo at the moment!

It's hard to say but it doesn't sound very positive if your hcg is so high but no fetal pole. Did the hospital not say what they thought was happening?

I have had 4 miscarriages (but also 3 healthy pregnancies) and I have to be honest and say that it seems unlikely that this is going to end with a healthy viable pregnancy.

I tried to kid myself with my dates but you seem to know your dates well and so to be 8 1/2 weeks and not see a 'baby' doesn't sound right no matter what explanation you try to give.

I am sorry for what you are going through.
I had the same experience with no heart beat and just empty sac when 6w2d. And miscarried the day after the scan. It stopped growing at 4 weeks. I know my HCG was decreasing by using clear blue digital tests with week indicator (weeks going down after bleeding) but I have also read a lot of stories of it being misleading and inaccurate and causing unnecessary worries.

They are very reluctant to give me blood tests and said if next pregnancy happens (finger crossed) scans are still the way to monitor.

Thanks both. I've not miscarried yet so just having to sit out the waiting game I think, and wait for the next scan :( It's so hard and frustrating! Not getting my hopes up.
