Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

No Period 8 months after MC

Hi all, I posted the in General Health but no responses so thought I'd try here. I had a miscarriage 8 months ago, had an erpc and ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics for an infection. Had just recovered from that when I got pneumonia. Its taken me ages to get well again but I finally feel back to normal - except I still have not had a period.

My GP is v sympathetic but doesn't know what to do with me, he says it's just because I was so ill and that it will take time for everything to get back to normal. I've had blood tests and an ultrasound and everything looks normal, hormones fine, nothing weird going on. I've got a referral to a gyno but appointment is not for months. In the meantime I've been temping and using OPKs to try to work out what's going on and I'm certain I ovulated just over 2 weeks ago. I'm now having period like cramps for the last 2 days and a tiny bit of spotting but no proper blood. It really hurts and I've convinced myself my uterus is all scarred or something equally terrible is going on.

Anyone had anything similar after a mc and it's turned out ok? Or should I push for a more urgent gyno appointment if possible? Or any advice at all??!
Thanks!
Oh, and I'm definitely not pregnant...

Hi lily

Not the same but I had similar after a mc. I got pregnant very soon after trying but had a MMC. Natural management and hoped that I would move forward and conceive again quickly. I had had very very regular cycles up to then, but suddenly my cycles were varying in length and my periods were different in nature.

My GP wad fairly unsympathetic but I really pushed for a referral and ended up in fertility clinic. Investigations were all normal but I was booked for a laparoscopy and dye test. I had this and was pregnant within a month.

I feel that something was amiss after the MC. Obviously nothing major as it resolved but I personally am convinced the "jet wash" effect of the operation helped.

I'm not sure if you will be able to expedite the gyno appt as they wont consider it urgent. But when you get there I would be very persistent and have all the facts to hand.

I went on to have a healthy DD and have now just fallen pregnant very quickly with number two so there is hope.

I know how frustrating it is to know something is wrong but have to fight to sort it. Hold on to hope tho- you've conceived once and this will likely resolve.

Good luck! X

Sorry for your loss op.

I had an mmc followed by an erpc but havent had the same experience im afraid. I doubt it's anything to do with scarring though.

Your body sounds like it has been through a lot. It does sounds like it could just be getting back to normal.

The opks and period like feelings sound good. If it remains spotting tho that sounds a bit like pregnancy symptoms.

I know youre not pregnant but if u ovulated two weeks ago and this is going on, maybe u could have got pregnant then?

In my pregnancy after the erpc i had an amniotic sheet which i think can be caused by scarring after erpc. My periods have all been fine after erpc though.

Thanks both, and sorry for your losses too. Your messages have given me a bit of hope though. I think I'm just over-worrying and the GP is probably right but this seems never-ending. I just want to move on but there is nothing I can do, it's so frustrating! And the stress can't be helping me....

It's easy to say and difficult to follow but enjoy life now. I wish I hadn't worried so much, it was wasted energy.

Without stating the obvious, life changes enormously post babies so enjoy all he things you have now ( sleep, energy, time to yourself, time with just your OH).

Wishing you all the best X

Hi Lily, I went through a very similar situation. I had a miscarriage and my periods failed to return (I wasn't ill after it though). The very strange thing for me however was that I had all the symptoms of ovulating each month but no period. Anyway, like you, I was convinced that erpc had left scarring and I got myself in a right state about being to conceive again. In the end I had everything checked out and there was no scarring etc and still no-one could tell me why I wasn't having periods. I should add that I had had other times during my life where my periods had just stopped. Anyway I decided to have acupuncture and eventually my periods did return however I couldn't say categorically that this was due to the acupuncture. It was quite a while ago now but I think it took about 6-8 months. I then went on to conceive my gorgeous DS who is now 9 :-)

If they can find nothing medically wrong then I would just try and relax, easier said that done I know! Take care of yourself and good luck

Thanks so much, it's really helpful just to read these messages! I need to calm down and relax - and most of all I need to stop googling symptoms and imagining the worst!

I had been thinking about acupuncture actually, if nothing else it might help me relax a bit and feel like I'm actually doing something. I'll look into it.

Thanks again x
