First Time PG - First MC - When will i ovulate??

Hi all,
This is my first ever thread and unfortunately it's not due to good circumstances.
DH and I decided to start trying in November and fell PG v quickly. Found out I was PG just before Christmas. Felt quite good but boobs ached from day 1 (i think) and felt a little tired. Got a few twinges here and there but i put them down to normal pains as it was the first time and didn't know what to expect. Anyway, i started bleeding on the 2nd Jan but just a little spotting so hoped it was implantation bleeding but by the next day it was like a period with cramping. I was 5 weeks pregnant and after a week of bleeding i'm not PG anymore :-(
So the start of the New Year has been anything but happy! i feel v down and scared about the future and what my failure to keep the pregnancy means. DH wants to try again straight away and part of me does cos i just want to get on with it but a large part of me is v scared that it'll happen again. Doctor said to just start trying again and as i fell so quickly then not to worry. But I just don't feel in anyway up for DTD!! I've done ovulation kits all this week (2 weeks since MC started) but each test has been negative which doesn't surprise me because i just feel like 'down there' has gone into hibernation! Can anyone tell me if this is normal and when i might start ovulating again? Thanks

Hello there, so sorry for your loss. I had a mc at 11 weeks in November so I know what you're going through.
First off, you didn't 'fail' and it probably doesn't mean anything. The statistics for losses range from 20% to 40% of all pregnancies and the majority of these will be nothing to do with anything you did. Most of these are down to chromosomal which would have prevented that pregnancy from ever developing. This is totally normal and actually how we evolved- you body is clever enough not to continue with something which would never have worked.
So the good news is that this doesn't mean you are more likely to have mc in the future or that you will struggle to conceive.
The bad news is it is impossible to know when you will next ovulate. Anything goes in the cycle after a mc. Have you dine a pregnancy test recently? The pregnancy hormones need to have gone down in order for your body to kick start your cycle again and this can take a while. I think I ovulated about 3 weeks after my mc ended- it took a well for pregnancy rest to return to negative for me. For others, it can be longer. Just keep an eye on things but remember that there isn't really a 'normal' here. Like when you have a baby, cycles can get back to normal really quickly or they can take a bit longer.
Be kind to yourself. Have a look on the conception board for the 'ttc after mc' thread- there are some lively supportive women there who have been / are going through the same as you.

Hi, thanks v much for your reply and v sorry to hear about your loss too.

I've heard most early MCs are due to chromosomal issues, i just hope that is the case and that there's nothing wrong with me. although i'll have to go through this another 2 times to find out if there is which must be really frustrating for everyone out there.

Yes i did a pregnancy test a couple of days again and it was negative so i'll have to wait and see and hope for the best.
Thanks again for your helpful comments.

I have recently been in the same position. I went through a MC at 8 weeks (first pregnancy) in early December. I got my period after 5 weeks but apparently everyone is different.

In that 'inbetween' bit my hormones were all over the place, I got awful acne and felt terrible, really exhausted and down. Since getting my period again my skin's started to clear up and I feel a lot less hopeless so I think it's just a case of letting your body stabilise everything again.

We would quite like a baby and will try again but actually the thought of potentially going through the whole MC ordeal again fills me with dread... so I know how you feel. I've decided not to monitor ovulation etc as it might make me feel more pressured.

Hi, I'm so sorry about what's happened to you. I experienced it a couple of times too before I had a successful pregnancy. I can remember that hormonal roller-coaster after MC. I'm no medical expert and all I can tell you is how it was for me - in case that helps - but I conceived my daughter very soon after a miscarriage, with no periods in between and I had no clue about when I was ovulating.... (I had a miscarriage at the end of the October, it took until mid-December for the pregnancy to have completely left my womb - lots of scans! - and I conceived my daughter at the end of the January). Just go for it! Good luck!
