Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

how long for a pregnancy test to show negative after early miscarriage?

I took a pregnancy test 6 days before my period was due and it came back positive although the positive red line was hardly visible (this also happened when i found out i was pregnant with my first child). To be sure I took another test, this time a digital one, 4 days before my period was due and it also came back positive and said 1-2 weeks. My period then appeared right on time and on this day i took another digital test and it came back negative.

I know it seems obvious that I've had an early miscarriage but after looking into it a little it would appear that it usually takes a bit longer for the hormone to disappear completely? Also a heavier than normal period lasting for 5-6 days seems to be the norm. however, my period seems to have been light and only lasted about 4 days with hardly any pain. have to wait a few days to get to the doctor, was wondering if anyone has any advice or similar experience? I'm under no illusion that I'm still pregnant but feeling confused. Confused

I think the best thing to do is try not to think about it until u can go to the doctors and have them tell u, it's early days I can imagine how it's fuking with your head but really the best thing would be the doctors n if u do have to wait to see them maybe see if u have an nhs walk in center ?

Good luck though xx

It's called a chemical pregnancy or a very early miscarriage. The time taken for HCG to drop depends on how high it was in the first place, so when you read of it taking weeks to get a negative test that's normally after a loss later in first trimester. The later the miscarriage happens the more tissue and lining will be lost, so because your period was on time there would not really have been any more lining there than in a non pregnant cycle. It being physically similar to a period doesn't make it any easier emotionally though, for most of us there is a baby as soon as we see a line on a test. Take care of yourself.

Firstly so sorry for your loss. An early mc (chemical) is awful to go through and cruel.
I have been through this 8 times in the last year. I get to 4w4days and bam! This last one I got to 5w1day.
I was told at my scan (was booked for 6+1 and went anyway) that they wouldn't scan me for retained products due to me having a negative digi test. Even though I said they were less sensitive so what if I still had a positive dip stick? Anyway she scanned me and nothing there and I've ovulated again bang on time this month (I ov every month 14-15 days after I start bleeding, so mc doesn't seem to affect that).

My periods strangely enough are lighter on my positive months like you.

Chances are your hcg is normal by now, take care and good luck with getting a sticky one next time x
