Our baby died because of a Chromosonal abnormality, anyone else?

Hello, in September during my 12 week scan, we discovered that the baby had died and there was fluid on the babies abdomen and neck. This lead to us having a ERPC and genetic testing, the results came back over a month ago saying that the baby had a chromosone defect on Chromosone 1 (part of it was missing) this is a really rare complication and because of the rareness both me and dh were tested to see if we are carriers of the mutation Sad

We really want to try again, but have been told not ttc until we get the results, i am really just asking if any of you out there have been though the same thing, how much longer will we have to wait for our results its been 5 weeks today since we were tested, it feels like we are in limbo not knowing where we are.

We are also dreading getting the results as if either of us is positive, we will be in for a up hill struggle ttc!

Anyone?

Hi cookie I'm so sorry you lost your baby. I had karyotyping done as part of RMC testing and results took 8 weeks to come back. I hope it turns out that the abnormal chromosome was a random mutation and not something one of you is carrying. If one of you is a carrier you'll be offered genetic counselling before you TTC again.

I'm so sorry. My fourth (and last) miscarriage was tested (i.e. they took a sample from the placenta as the baby had already died) and the results came back that the baby had a very rare chromosomal disorder.

It took about six weeks, if I remember rightly, for the results to come back. Dh and I had blood tests around the same time and they came back clear for mutations that might be transferred to a baby.

I found it very hard indeed to come to terms with the loss and the fact that the poor baby had never had any chance of survival :(

Although my previous three miscarriages were not tested, there is a good chance that - by a sad coincidence more than anything else - the babies also had a chromosome disorder. I believe this is the main reason why babies are miscarried in the first trimester.

I really hope you get some good news soon about the results. I am happy to say that I did eventually become a mum to a healthy child - he is eleven years old now :) We were given genetic counselling during my pregnancy with ds. I expect that you will be given this with your test results.
