Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Possible miscarriage?

I had unprotected sex a couple days after I had finished my period. It has been five weeks coming up six and I have no period or any signs. I took a pregnancy test a couple days ago and it was negative. I now have my period but it is not like usual. I have quite bad back pain and feel a little bloated. I have pain sticking to my left side quite a bit as well. My blood this time has been a bit brown but nothing more really, I've also had a couple of clumps too. I'm only 18 so I'm a little unsure whether or not this is a possible miscarriage, could someone help?

Hiya, well it is possible. But it's also possible it's an implantation bleed.

I'd test again in a day or two and see your GP if it's still negative.

Also they could perhaps rule out things like an ectopic pregnancy which is dangerous if left.

Certainly if the pain gets any worse then I'd be seeing the GP tomorrow, urgently, if it gets really bad then A&E x

Oh - also there's a chance you may have an infection, did you sleep with someone you're in an exclusive relationship with, or someone else? Might be worth going along to a drop in clinic for sexual health as well - they may well be able to tell you what else it could be, too, they're good on pregnancy/ family planning issues. If you're too embarrassed to see your GP.

What exactly is an ectopic pregnancy?

An ectopic pregnancy is where the embryo implants in a fallopian tube rather than in the body of the uterus. There's not enough room for it to grow there so it causes pain and if left would eventually rupture the tube which is very serious.
The symptoms are one-sided abdominal pain, pain in your shoulder, abnormal vaginal bleeding and bowel pain, diarrhoea or vomiting.
I second the suggestion if you feel something is not right then see your Gp and get some advice.

I had a very late period last year and like you had taken pregnancy tests and they were negative. Although there's always the chance of a false negative, after five or six weeks a pregnancy should be detectable.

I was concerned because I'm rhesus negative and would have needed anti D if it had been a miscarriage. The pregnancy test was negative though and when my period came later that day it was so heavy and painful and full of red clots, some really very big. My doctor assured me that this is just the result of my period being late and that if it were a miscarriage the test would have been positive, but I still wonder because I have never been late before or had such a weird period.

If you feel like there is something wrong or you're in pain then definitely go to the doctor. After a pregnancy loss I lost so much blood I collapsed at work and got very anaemic so do be careful. And please, keep us posted.

The pain had gone now, but it's still on my mind. The clots are still there and oim going to the doctor this week. I'm still really unsure about everything. I'm just hoping I'm fine. Thank you to everyone who has helped me out I really appreciated it
