Sex after ERPC

I had ERPC done yesterday. Still feeling a bit bashed around from it, but me and DH want to start TTC again as soon as we can. Just wondering how long we need to wait before we can start DTD again? I've not had any bleeding, but don't want to start too soon if it isn't advised. All that the hospital said was ideally wait until AF returns for dating purposes.

Oh, also when can I resume exercise? I gained some weight while pregnant and want to lose it before I (hopefully) fall pregnant again.

I was told no sex and light exercise only until after the 6 week check up.

I'm sorry you've been through this.

Tbh I would certainly give it a week or two. You may bleed in the next few days. I bled on and off for up to 10 days after my various ERPCs. Your cervix will have been open and so there is a risk of infection.

I did conceive in the first cycle after an ERPC, without an intervening period (I miscarried again, but it was nothing to do with the ERPC).

Sorry I was a bit brief earlier.

The reasons I was given to wait are:

  1. Risk of infection
  2. High chance of conceiving and miscarrying again (don't know if age is a factor in that, I'm 40). My gynaecologist said 1/3 chance of miscarriage.
  3. In case the miscarriage was a molar pregnancy. If you got pg again the signs would be missed (rising hCG when not pg is the main sign). I have/had this but it is very, very rare so try not to worry about this one!

Sorry you are going through this. Take it easy in the next few days/weeks.

I waited for about 4 weeks, it felt weird Confused and tighter down there like I was a virgin again [embarrassed]. Did anyone else feel different down there??

I had an ERPC 6weeks ago.

I was told to wait 4 weeks with regards to having sex, this was in relation to infection.

I was told to wait weeks 2"weeks before regiourious exercise.

I have not been offered any follow up or 6 week checks.

Take care.

Sorry meant to add. It didn't feel any different 'down there' to me!

Thanks everyone! I didn't even think to ask about any of this while at the hospital, my head still feels like its up my backside but am trying to focus on the practical side of things for now.

Hi rock, I love all the conflicting advice medical professionals give. I was told 2 weeks until sex and I don't have any follow up appointments either. Was just told to contact them if something wasn't right.

I would wait a few days as I didn't bleed much at all the first few days and then bled really heavily for a week. The poster is right who said it's because your cervix might be open whilst bleeding and there is a risk of infection. However, once you've had a few days with no blood at all your cervix should be shut and you're fine to have sex.

Thanks Guff - I still feel bashed about from it all, but just so impatient!
