Pain after MC HELP!

Hb1994 · 30/03/2013 12:26

I MC last Tuesday night at 10 weeks. I had constant heavy bleeding and large blood clots but no pain. Went for a scan the next day and there was no sign of a 10 weeks pregnancy but they spotted a tiny black spot which could mean the start of a new pregnancy or a blood clot, i have to wait two weeks to find out. Since Tuesday i am still bleeding but at night i get very very severe pains, much much worse then period pains, and then i start to bleed a lot more. Is this normal? and when will it start to go away? Its making me very distressed!! and any tips to help ease the upset of the MC as its my first and not coping well!

Hi, I have no advice but couldn't read and run. I'm 7 days into a miscarriage at 6/7 weeks and I've been shocked at the amount of blood, clots and pain I continue to experience. I haven't seen a dr as mine literally was not interested so I've no idea what's normal. All I can say is if you feel the pains are not right, or too much, then call the out of hours doctor and see what they think. I hope you feel better soon.

Thankyou, both my doctors and midwife both ignored any problems I was having just casting them off as normal so when I did mc i had no idea what to expect or what to do. After the Mc i just got told to take paracetamol thats it.

Yup same as me. Confused

I think if you are still experiencing severe pains after you have passed the pregnancy tissue and had a clear scan then you need to get yourself checked out again. Could be nothing, but could be retained material (I've had sonographers disagree whether scan was clear or showed retained products) could be a new pregnancy if that was suspected from the scan ( though not clear how you can miscarry one day and have a new pregnancy the next).
The expected course of a natural miscarriage is the you'll have some labour like pains whilst your cervix opens and you pass the sac, but then it should settle down to period like proportions for the next 1-2 weeks.
Hope you get the all clear.

They said I could have mc at 7 weeks and then got pregnant again but personally I think not. The pains are severe, I had an internal scan they didnt see anything left just that tiny black dot on the scan and that every thing passed naturally

Are the pains affecting your breathing. Are you having to sort of 'huff' to get through them?

I've had horrible pains that have had me doubled over and in tears, but nothing so severe that its affected my breathing. But I've heard that's a good indicator of problems.

If the pain feels too strong for you - you should call nhs direct of out of hours doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

Hb1994 · 30/03/2013 18:32

Yeah doing lots of huffs to get through it! Most pain ive ever been through. If it happens again tonight ill see what nhs direct say but got a feeling its will be take paracetamol and be on your way.

I think you should call them. I took extra strength ibuprofen in the end but I did do knowing I was definitely not pregnant and if you are in any doubt about it at all you obviously wouldn't want to risk it Hmm

Im holding off anything other then paracetamol just incase there is a chance of another pregnancy. Going to wait a few more days to take a test, lets hope it goes by then! Cant find anything helpful on the intetnet about these pains I hope their nothing serious!

Yes I don't blame you for holding out. Are they like strong period cramps. Mine were. Not quite as bad as contractions but so much worse than any period I've ever had. They only stopped yesterday (day 6 of miscarriage) after I passed a large clot. Confused

Hb1994 · 30/03/2013 19:20

Like period pains but the pain goes even lower. The pains only start when I start to bleed or when I'm passing small clots, been 4 days now so hopefully they will start to fade now!

Fingers crossed. Keep us posted (if you want to)

Bakingtins · 30/03/2013 21:40

I had cramping and pains that went down my legs in my labours and in all 3 miscarriages. Just don't hesitate to get checked out if it's anything that feels 'wrong' to you. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hb1994 · 31/03/2013 12:15

Had more pain around half 8 last night and they were slightly better but that may be because I was awake and was able to take paracetamol before the pain got worse

This sounds to me like u could have retained product my last mc I was passing clots that were very large for 6 days then as soon as the final one passed the pain stopped, as for new pregnancy I don't understand as you would not have ovulated before miss carrying this pregnancy! I was taking 2 cocodemol 1 diplophenic together as ordered by the hospital along with a dose of morphine they gave me there and I could still feel the pain! Hope you feel better soon oh and also a test could still show positive from this pregnancy mine did for 3 weeks good luck xx

Hb1994 · 02/04/2013 20:17

Thats what I think it is to but nothing came up on the scan just something that looks like it could be a new pregnancy, I dont understand it either. Ive been told to take a test in a weeks time, if its positive I have to go for a scan if negative I have to cancel it. Doctors have told me nothing they have been usuless even whilst I was going through the mc!

I know how that feels I have had 3 mc's and every time I just got told go home nothing we can do let nature take its course it's like no one really cares!! It will be interesting to hear if it is a new pregnancy as that would b a first I heard of something like that and I feel like I have researched the whole web since mc 3 lol hope all is well for you whatever the outcome x

Hb1994 · 02/04/2013 21:29

I understood the doctors or midwife couldn't stop the mc but I expected them to give me some advice especially as it was my first and had no idea what to expect. No tips on what to do after or if there would be any pain so was pretty much guess work and paracetamol. Just wishing it would end now and find out the result of test next week! x
