Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Did anyone pass the placenta days after their miscarriage?

I miscarried at the beginning of January and since then I have been reading everyone's experiences here and finding comfort in this board, realising that women go through such a lot. I am very sorry for your losses. I don't think that I can lurk any longer, I really want to talk!

I miscarried at home at nearly 14 weeks, had been spotting for a couple of days before it became heavier and it happened very suddenely. I thought it was all over and four days later, I was, ahem, sitting on the loo, when I felt something pushing down through vag the shape of a cricket ball. Eventually, after about 10 or 15 minutes, it fell out (ouch) with a sound like a click or pop. Has anybody else experienced this? Isn't the placenta to be more like a piece of flat liver rather than a ball?

Am currently on third period since then and feel quite tearful each time it occurs, wondering whether I did something wrong etc but I don't know if I can go through it all again Sad.

I am so sorry about your late miscarriage.

I remember something like this. The way you describe it makes me think that placenta / baby hadn't developed for a few weeks.

Please though you did nothing wrong, and nothing you could have done would have made any difference. This just happens (quite often sadly).

Thank you for your message, Jules.
I should think that you are right, that the baby had been lost weeks before. I wish that I had seen the foetus/baby and that would put my mind at rest but I keep wondering whether it had somehow got wrapped up in this rounded placenta? I don't think that it's possible because the 'gush' of the miscarriage was strong but I couldn't see anything in those contents apart from two small grey beans (about the size of haricot beans). I was due to go for a scan so I will never know whether what was there was healthy or not. I can see from the photos I took that there was a strong, umbilical cord wrapped around the top of the placenta. The next day at the EPU at the local NHS hospital, they asked me to bring in the 'products of conception' if I had them but despite this, they couldn't tell me anything much which is very frustrating. I understand that the NHS is very stretched but I wish that I had been given a better explanation. I suppose the answer is for me to find a specialist if there is going to be a next time.
