MC might be eptopic??

Desoerate for advice as really freaking out! Two days ago I started to bleed heavily at 8 weeks. Already had early scan booked yesterday and they confirmed that it was an mc as no baby in uterus, but they didn't see it anywhere else. They took bloods and said to come back in 48hrs to recheck that hormone levels were not still going up to rule out eptopic, however I have come to Wales for my best friend's wedding, so not having bloods til Monday. The hospital called last night to say they were concerned that my bloods showed very high levels of hormone and they are not happy to have me wait til Monday and told me to look out for symptoms of eptopic pregnancy.

My question is did anyone have a similar experience where the bloods were that high then did go down or should I be rushing back to retest?

Hi Essex, I'm really sorry to hear your news :( I have no experience or advice, I'm afraid as mine is a mmc and I've seen the baby, but I wanted to let you know that I'm sorry to see you over here too and I hope that you get some clarification about what you need to do ASAP.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you look after yourself.

All the best x

I've just noticed an ectopic support thread - maybe you might find more advice there?

habbibu · 12/04/2012 12:34

So sorry, Essex. Ectopic is risky - is there anywhere nearby you could get bloodshed taken? Increased hcg levels following mc can mean molar pg - have they ruled that out?

What a hideous position to be in. I hope people with more knowledge come along soon.

Sad so sorry about this EW. I've not got any advice as mine was mmc so obviously saw the baby etc. I'd second posting on the ectopic support thread. If you are still going away take your notes with you just in case and be on high alert for any symptoms kicking off x

Very sorry for your news Essex. A very good friend of mine recently had an ectopic which ruptured. She was very very poorly. I don't want to panic you but I couldn't read your post and not reply as I wouldn't want you to go through what she did. I hope you get everything sorted x

teaandchocolate · 12/04/2012 17:46

Hi Essex, so sorry you're going through this. I don't have any direct experience of ectopics (mine were mmc) but like jenbird said, I also have a friend who collapsed last week with an ectopic that burst.

I don't want to panic you more than I'm sure you already are but if I were you I'd try to get down to an A&E or EPU near where you are in Wales and get them to carry out whatever tests your local hospital was going to do on Monday. Much better to catch them early as far as I know

Hope you get on ok xx

I wonder if it would be possible for you to have bloods taken at another hospital?

I have got experience of this unfortunately and symptoms aren't nearly as obvious as the text book says. The first one I had, I was exactly the same as you. HGC not going down. This went on for over a week, before I was operated on. Second time however, it was a blue light trip to hospital and emergency surgery.

Please take care and listen to what the hospital has to say.

EssexWelsh · 13/04/2012 00:28

I said on the phone to hospital shall I go to get bloods taken down here tomorrow but they said not to bother as they could not share their results for some reason and even if I got them they couldn't rely on them being accurate as a different system. They said to just keep an eye out for symptoms and go Monday. Problem is as looking for symptoms keep thinking do I feel dizzy,is that period pain cramp really bad or do I have a strong pain threshold, is my shoulder hurting but think it's all in my head.

Never heard of molar pg going to investigate.

Also all eptopic threads I have looked at don't seem similar already having mc??

Thanks for help and support from my comrades pips and foof

Essex i dont want to give you false hope but this is exactly what happened to me.

I had massive bleed on a wednesday at 4pm and kept bleeding til the early hours of thurs. Had scan on thurs that showed no baby in uterus just supposed 'retained products'. Had blood taken on thurs and was called on fri and told the result was too high and that it may have been ectopic. Told to go to gynae ward on sat at 10am for more bloods. When i got there consultant said it was a bit early for more bloods and that some on mon may have been more useful. He did the bloods and said someone would call me. Come mon no phonecall so i rang epu, was told results from sat bloods would be around 4pm! After 4pm i got a call to say levels had risen but that it didnt mean anything and that it was just the levels peaking before they fell. Told to go in on tues for more bloods. I did this and midwife said that as results were very high that if they rose again i would be rescanned. She rushed results through and i got a call before 12pm to tell me they had risen again and they had booked me for a scan the next day. Scan showed a teeny 2.9mm embryo with a heartbeat but also showed a 3 cm clot in my womb. Everyone was shocked!

So...thats my story. I have had 3 scans now and so far everything is ok. So it is not necessarily an ectopic. I'm sorry if I upset you but your experience sounded like mine, left with the unknown and worrying about having an ectopic rupture or something at the weekend.

I hope you are doing ok
