Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

7 weeks pregnant and bleeding

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and just started bleeding.
I called the doctor who said:"most miscarriage occur in the first 3 month, not much can be done. Have some rest and I'll book you an appointment at the early pregnancy unit next week"
I don't know what to do. He asked me if it was fresh blood or brown blood. Does the colour of the blood indicates if I'm having a miscarriage or not?
I'm not sure what to think or feel. I have to stay in the dark until the end of next week.

Fresh red blood is new blood. Brown blood is old blood. Supposedly that means that brown blood is better, but in most cases it (very unhelpfully) means nowt. Either colour blood can indicate miscarriage, or it could be a million other things (again, very unhelpfully). Unfortunately, other than having a scan there is not much you can do to know either way. If you are London based, St. George's in Tooting have a self-refer EPU that is open 8am-12pm on Saturdays if you want a scan on the NHS. Otherwise you will have to wait. Sorry, I have been there and I know how much it sucks :(

Thank you banana!
I've been having cramp and am now spotting.
I'll go there tomorrow morning, I need to know either way!

Hi sweetlucy

May I ask how much blood you're losing at the moment? Unfortunately I've just been through a miscarriage at 6 weeks so might be able to shed some light. I know it's really scary. It's horrible when you have no control over what is happening to your own body. I was told that I had to wait until the bleeding had stopped and do another pregnancy test. Also, how long have you been bleeding for?

If it's any help, I bled at 5 weeks and had a mc, then bled when I got pg again at 5 weeks and didn't, and have DD. There is also a girl on another thread I go on who bled a lot, and was sure she had miscarried and hasn't (she's 11+3 now). So while it may be bad news, it may not. I think try not to worry (ha, how ridiculous!) and just get yourself scanned asap tomorrow.

Good luck

Agreed. My MIL bled heavily with her third son. She was sure she'd miscarried. He's 30 now. You just never know. Stay strong...

Thank you all for your replies.
The bleeding started yesterday afternoon, accompanied with mild cramps. I now bleed very little, but steadily.
I'm getting ready to go to uclh. Apparently their epu is open today and is running scans, I just need to go through a&e. I'm hoping my baby is ok.

I had the scan and my baby is ok :)
The doctor said that they couldn't say if the bleeding was going to stop or carry on and said that the pregnancy might be ok or not. So not very helpful or reassuring, but for now things are ok.
I'm going to take it super easy from now on and hopefully in a few months time
I'll have a baby...
