hello all I'm new at this so please bare with me. I went for a dating scan last tuesday and found out sadly we had losted baby. We decided to have op but we had to wait for phonecall from hosp to say when I was booked in. I had the phone call yesterday! Nearly a week after!!!! I had been missed of the list! But in the meantime we think we losted baby natually as had alot of pain and heavy bleeding. I told hosp this but they said to still go in tomorrow (weds) to make sure all is out! Is there some checks they can do before hand as I'm really nervous about surgery and if I don't need it be going through it all for nothing.
We tried ringing hosp when it all happened but could never get through and left loads of messages.
Sorry bout going on and on just not sure what to do. This is my first miscarriage.
Please help if you can. X

Sorry to hear your baby has died and sorry the hospital is not returning your calls
They may do a scan to check or a HGC blood test when you get there I guess
If you do need the op then it is quick and easy, just some cramping and bleeding afterwards, normally home within 2 hours.
Sadly it's not uncommon to wait for the op, I too waited 2 weeks
Hope all goes well and they find it's all ok and you can come straight home

Really sorry you're going through this sellyoak, it's a horrible thing to happen.

I would have thought that the hospital will just want scan you to make sure that things have happened naturally. they may do blood tests etc too. If they planned to go ahead with the operation then they'd have told you, as you'd need to stop eating and drinking by a certain time (7am for me).

But if you do have to have the op, I know it's scary but in my experience (had it twice) its not nearly as bad as you imagine. I was knocked out for it and it didn't hurt. Only mild period pains after. Be prepared to stay the day just in case they do want to operate - I'd not eat after 7am, take newspapers, comfy clothes, dressing gown etc. Then you'll be prepared no matter what happens.

If you can ring the hospital again, I would. It's completely rubbish of them to be so uncommunicative. Doesn't help you at all for them to be like this.

Hope it goes ok. Well, you know what I mean! Good luck x

I know topsmart offers excellent advice here, I don't really have anything more to add, except as someone else who has been through this in the past week I just wanted to say I am very sorry for your loss :(

So sorry for your loss, I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. They will give you a scan to check everything out & if there are any findings they will send you for the operation. As everyone elses comments I would make sure that you fast. I was put to sleep for the operation which only takes about 10 -15 mins, it is very worrying but you will be fine. Afterwards I was advised to take paracetamol & ibuprofen. Unfortunately afterwards I had an infection so make sure you keep an eye on everything & if you're in the slightest bit worried about anything contact your GP. Its not an easy time at all, hope you're bearing up ok Wink xx

Hey everyone, thank you for all your kind words and advice it's nice to know you've got someone/somewhere to turn too for help or just a chat.
I went to hosp yesterday and told um what had happened and that we think it's happened naturally. And he said that yes it does sound like it has happened, ask him bout doing a scan or blood test and said there was no need and as long as I don't see anything not normal just pop to GP
Suppose they know best.
Just one thing I know it will depend person to person but how long do you bleed for after all this? I bleed heavy for bout 3 days and then it was just like a period, which it's be like for afew days but it's slowed down now and like a very light period. Is this normal?
Sorry for all the questions.

I think you can bleed for up to 2 weeks, well thats what I was advised on but I had ERPC so not 100% sure. I think the hospital should have still given you a scan to see if everything had passed.

Look after yourself & I hope there are happier times in store for you Smile

Agree, 2 weeks is normal, stop starting is normal too. I'm sure you have been told about reporting an increase is pain or offensive discharge.
I was also told to do a pregnancy test after 3 weeks, although it can take 6 weeks for it to go all the way down to normal
