High HGC level 3 weeks after ERPC? Tell me it's not a molar

Please tell me lots of reasons why my hormones have not returned to under 5. All I can find on google is links to molar pregnancies. Trying not to panic

I had scan at 9 weeks which showed no heart beat, scan at 11 weeks confirmed this. Eventually had ERCP at what would have been 13 weeks and have not stopped bleeding for more than 24 hours since.

It's now 2 weeks and 5 days since op so went back to EPU and had scan that showed remaing products and a blood test which said I have a HGC of over 1000. I'm on antibiotics and waiting to go back on Monday if I'm no better (cramping and feeling tired etc)

Thanks for reading this far, it's 7 weeks since I had the initial scan, not sure how much we stil have to face :(

I'm sorry for your loss. It's crap that you've had to go through this. I had a similar issue with hcg levels following retained products post mc. It took over a month for levels to fall and bleeding to stop.

Please don't worry about molar. It is rare. You'll start to feel better soon and more like yourself. Hang on in there until it passes.

I think a full molar pregnancy would have shown on your scans - apparently the view is very different from a miscarried pregnancy. A partial molar pregnancy is not obvious like that but if you've had an ERPC they should have checked the tissue for signs of a molar pregnancy I think. So it should be unlikely. I hope you feel better soon. When you go back on Monday be sure to ask if they checked for that after ERCP and you'll know for sure it's ok then.

I think northernlurker is right. I had an erpc on Friday and the doctor who went through the consent forms explained the tissue testing consent was to check for (amongst other things possibly) molar pregnancy. So I would imagine if it was that they would have contacted you by now?

I am really sorry eaglewings, I have had three weeks of wondering if this was going to happen to me, and just 4 days since the scan showing no heartbeat and I already feel like I couldn't take much more.

I had a partial mp in 2003, on scans it looked like a snowstorm filling the womb, they knew straight away that it was molar. Also my hcg levels were in the hundreds of thousands. If they sent of tissue for testing then the results would have come back very quickly. How heavy is the bleeding? If it is soaking through a pad quickly then you should get checked out. I bled very heavily with my mp.

Sorry to hear you are having this worry. If you have had retained products then that is the most likely reason for your hcg levels taking a long time to fall. I had a complete molar in January. Most molars do not actually show up on scans (probably because they are so rare that sonographers don't detect them!) but they would certainly have tested the tissue after your ERPC and if they suspected a molar they would have been on the lab's back to get those results back by now; mine came back routinely within 3 weeks.

Molars really are ridiculously rare (about 1,200 per year in the entire of the UK) - since January I have yet to see anyone else on MN who has posted to say they've had one, so when you consider how many posters there are on here, that shows you how rare they are. Try not to worry. Hope you get some peace of mind soon. x

I had the same, retained products after initial ERPC and an HCG that was over 1000. After repeat ERPC (and the worry of a molar preg) they checked the tissue, but my levels dropped on their own anyway, down to 70 a week after the repeat ERPC.

I think it is pretty normal to have high levels of HCG, especially if the tissue left behind is placental (as was the case with mine). Either way you are under care and they are looking after you, trust in your physicians.

Escape, how long after they found the retrained products did they repeat the ERPC? Was it long after the original op? I'm just wondering how long it's all going to take still

Hi sorry to hear your news. It is unlikely to be molar as they would have picked it up on your ultrasound.

It is more likely to be retained products unfortunately and might require another ERPC. HCG levels do take a long time to go down after a miscarriage/erpc.

I am going to go against the grain here and say yes it could be a molar pregnancy. Very unlikely but not impossible. I say this as someone who has had one. I was intially told a few weeks after what I thought was routine msc that all test were negative(I suspect from scan they thought it was molar) but a couple of weeks later was then told no it was in fact molar. I knew something was up anyway as still felt pregnant and still bleeding-though not lots.

Please do not be scared though. As I said its probably not molar but even it is it is not the end of the world. I had further complications following mine and needed treatment but have still gone on to have 3 dcs.
