Hi

Well as you may no from previous posts, i recently suffered my first miscarriage which i am still struggling to come to terms with. I actually thought i was starting to feel better as last saturday i actually stopped bleeding, and this did make me feel better as i thought now i could move on, anyway it didn't last as tuesday started spotting again, and haven't stopped, today i am bleeding quite heavy, is this normal has anyone else suffered this, i am also experiencing achy muscles (arms and legs), do you think this is connected, i have thought about contacting docs, but don't want them to think i am worrying to much about it, and that it is actually normal, thing is no one has really told me what to expect, i have just been left to get on with it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks Jules.x

I think that you should contact the epu where you were seen or your gp, it could be that you need to be rescanned to check for retained products or infection, please don't worry about bothering them, your health is more important.

Best wishes x

Hi, I would definitely get in touch with your GP and get an emergency appointment if your worried. If the blood is also smelling then it could be a sign of infection or like meliesmummy said, retained products. You will most likely get a scan to check for this.

If you miscarried around 3-4 weeks ago, this could be your period starting? Miscarriages can play around with your cycle and AF can sometimes come earlier or later than expected.

Sorry you are going through this - it's horrible when the mc just drags on. I bled for about 4 weeks after my MMC last March after an ERPC. Hope you are okay x

Sorry you're going through this Juicee. How long ago was the ERPC? Could it be your period starting? I know from experience that the first period after a MC can be a bit painful and odd.

As others have said, it's worth getting it checked out in case it's retained products. I'm currently going through this. I started bleeding about 5 weeks after the ERPC and it turns out that they didn't get rid of everything and it's starting to come away on its own. It's taking a while though and it's very stop/start and everything aches and I generally feel pretty rubbish. Did you do any pregnancy tests after the ERPC to check that the pregnancy hormones were out of your system? If you did go back to getting negative tests, then it's probably not retained products, but if you're still testing positive (I am, 7 weeks after ERPC) then it could well be. It might be worth doing a test to see.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, i started bleeding (light spotting) 24th feb, and was referred to epac a week later they done a scan that showed an empty uterus and thought that i was either too early or i already miscarried, anyway they checked my hcg levels and they were dropping so consultant informed me i was going to miscarry that was on the 4th march, 7th march i woke up with the worst period pains i had ever felt, and started bleeding heavy and passed a few clots, sorry tmi, i guess this was the miscarriage anyway continued to bleed til 12th then stopped, i then started bleeding again on the 15th, it is now quite heavy not really bad just like a heavy period, i was never offered any further help from docs, they checked my levels last week and said they had dropped significantly to 69 and no further action required so i was just left to get on with it, i chickened out phoning hospital yesterday, but i have decided to call them today for some advice, so i will let you know, thanks for supporting me through this tough time, x

Hi juicee - you know I'm not a doctor, but your bleeding sounds like it is a period to me. If your hcg levels were dropping and had gone down to 69, then it is quite unlikely there are retained products. I hope they give you good advice about this today.

It's the most lonely thing when after a mc they just leave you to it. During my first mc I couldn't understand why no one wanted to see me for a follow up at the surgery - I was so scared - that whole period in my life is just one big blur. During my third mc, the doctors didn't even want me to come into the surgery - it was one phone call from a male doctor saying "stay at home, as you know there's nothing we can do"...It made me feel like shit - like I was going to be a burden on their budget or something.

Saying that, I did make a follow up appointment with another GP, and he was absolutely lovely and actually asked me how I was feeling and talked to me about the options and my well being well over the 10 mins timeslot. I really recommend making a follow up appointment with a doctor and just make a list of questions you have and talk through them - some of the things my doctor said to me really helped me through the other mc's.

It's definately worth taking a pg test too - if it's negative then it's likely to be your period, if it's positive then I would go back to the gp because there must be something left. I had my first period only 3 weeks later, about a week after the bleeding stopped, so it is possible.

Sorry, juicee, I don't know the answer to your question. My bleeding is only just coming to an end (started on 2nd March but has been continuous since then, not stopping and starting.) So I'm wondering how long it will be to my next period. The nurse in the EPAC said probably 4-6 weeks and it's likely to be very heavy.

Thanks for the replies, I went to docs yesterday, and had another swab done, i had one done last week at my request as wanted a reason for miscarriage, but it came back normal, anyway, i went yesterday because i am still spotting and to be honest its doing my head in, doc did another swab and said its unlikely to be infection as nothing was picked up last week, but just wanted to rule it out because i am bleeding, she did say there is a possibility that it is my period, but she is not sure, she has referred me for another scan to make sure everything has gone, but she also said that this won't be for another week, I am still spotting, although very intermittant, it stops then there is nothing for hours and i think yay its over i can move on, and possibly start trying again, but then i go to the loo and its there, arrghhhhhh!!! I'm not sure what else i can do other that sit it out and wait. It is almost a month since i started bleeding, and i really have had enough, just wish i could have had scan sooner than another week, at least then i would possibly have so answers other than wondering what if, is it going to end, and all the other stupid things that are running through my head, how do you move on when you constantly reminded of what happened. Sorry for the rant.. And can i just say again, thank you so much for your support, am i am also so sorry for your losses, this is one of the worst things ever, i'm sure. Hugs to all, xx
