Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Has anybody had similar symptoms??

I started bleeding heavily on 31/12/10, I think I passed a couple of blood clots when I passed urine. I went straight to the hospital where they examined me and told me my cervix was closed. Throughout the day they kept checking me and although the bleeding was still heavy, they said it was dark so a good sign... I had an internal scan and they confirmed that they saw a sac and embryo but at only 5+2 weeks, (going by my LMP on 6/11/10 I should be 8 weeks). Is that normal? The bleeding has slowed down although I am still bleeding today. Sometimes it is red and sometimes it is brown. I have had no pain or anything.

I have another scan on Wednesday, but has anyone else had similar symptoms? What was the outcome?

Thanks

I had a major bleed in my last pregnancy and went to hospital. I was scanned and examined. They saw a fetus with a hb measuring fine (not for dates, but I was not completely sure about dates anyway), cervix closed. Unfortunately I miscarried 2 days later, but my dr did say I was 75% likely not to miscarry and that it was a threatened miscarriage. Are you sure of your dates? LMP is very inaccurate IMO. When did you get a positive test?

I got a positive test on 1st December '10. I have always made a note of each period and my last one was definately 6/11/10.

Im going to try and go back tomorrow as I really cant wait any longer, I just want to know what is happening or has happened.

Thanks for your reply x

Hi when i was 5 weeks pregnant i had a big bleed with a clot the size of a satsuma (sorry if tmi) i went to hospital and was told to go home as i was misscarrying, the day after i went for a scan and i was amazed to see my baby fine with a healthy heartbeat, unfortunatly i misscarried at 10 and half weeks :( on a happier note my sister is 17weeks pregnant and has been bleeding on and off all way through and has bleeding around the baby but her baby is fine so i guess it could go either way, good luck though x

Thanks dollylolly, so sorry for your loss. Your sister's story has given me a little hope.
Contacted my local early pregnancy unit this morning and was told they were fully booked today, my appt tomorrow is first thing in the morning so only a few more hours and I will know one way or another.
Its been 5 days now of bleeding, although it has slowed quite a bit I have still prepared myself for the worse. I am just so confused, its an awful feeling. x

Hi Francesca I went for my first scan about a month ago and the baby was measuring small, 2 weeks behind. I started spotting the following week and went to the EPU for a scan. The hb was slow and the baby had only grown 1mm in 8 days. I did miscarry 6 days after the spotting started.

Seeing a heartbeat means that the risk of miscarriage should be less. I hope that your outcome is different than mine. Good luck at your scan tomorrow.

Hi francesca and really sorry to hear what you're going through. I started bleeding a week before Christmas and went for a scan the next day. They saw a sac and embryo at 5+6 weeks when I should have been more like 9. There was a heartbeat but it was much slower than it should have been. The doctor told me that I was at high risk of miscarriage, but that it could also be just an early pregnancy.

I'm really sorry to say that I miscarried a few days later. But dating is a very inexact science and you may well be fine. Do you have long cycles? It's good that the hospital seemed positive at your last scan.

Wishing you all the very best of luck for tomorrow - let us know how you get on. We're here for you if you need us.

Hi all,

Had my scan today, and my worst fear was confirmed, I had had a complete miscarriage.

We are just so sad. We will try again later in the year, however, i'm already terrified when we do it will happen again!

Thank you all for your kind words and helpful details of your own personal experiences, and fingers crossed for us all in the future x x x

Am so sorry to hear that francesca. I hope you're coping OK. I was so desperately sad for the first couple of weeks but it's getting easier by the day. Wishing you all the very best for the future.
