Crap - bleeding at 10 weeks - feel awful - any advice?

I think I'm 10+3 with DC2.

I did have hyperemesis and I'm on stemetil for that, but in the last week I have definitely started to feel better. I still have a bit of nausea and that awful gagging feeling when I haven't eaten anything, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. Before I went on the tablets, I couldn't even keep down water, so the way I feel now is a massive improvement.

This morning, as I got out of the shower, I noticed a smear of red blood on the towel. Since then, I have had a brown smaller smear on tissue paper. I have phoned our early pregnancy unit and I have an appointment this afternoon at 3pm.

It doesn't look good, does it?

The other thing that worries me is that I've had yellow discharge (sorry if TMI) all the way through this pregnancy. The midwife said if it wasn't smelly or itchy, I didn't need to worry but if it was, it could be an infection that needed checking. I have been a bit itchy the past few days so I had an appointment with my GP later today - could I have had an infection that might cause a MC?

Thanks for reading. I can't stop crying.

Bump -please does anyone have any experience or advice?

metalelephant Mon 13-Dec-10 11:44:23

Don't cry darling, it really doesn't mean anything - lots and lots of women bleed during pregnancy and only a scan will tell. Besides, you may just be getting lucky with the hyperemesis, getting close to the relief of the second trimester.

From what I know brown blood is better than bright red, and lack of pain is also a good sign. Pain and bleeding can be a bad sign, whereas lots of women I know have had spotting and went on to have their babies.

There's not much you can do by stressing, try to relax, hard as it may sound. In a short while you'll get your appointment.

Do you have a friend that can come over? Maybe you could benefit from some distraction right now.

Oh poor you. An infection can make you bleed and also cramp (happened with my 3rd pg) & was given two doses of antibiotics and pain-killers.

It's v good they are seeing you so promptly. Remember to have a full bladder.

Will be thinking of you xxx

Bicnod Mon 13-Dec-10 11:45:45

SuchStuff I'm in the same boat as you so can't be much help. I'm nearly 10 weeks pg with DC2 and ended up in A&E on Saturday as I had a gush (literally, I thought I'd wet myself) of blood they did internal exam and cervix still closed but won't find out if baby ok until scan this afternoon.

Really hope you and your LO are ok and will keep fingers crossed for your appointment this afternoon (are they going to scan you?) Doctor said to me that lots of people bleed and it is ok but obviously he couldn't guarantee it.

Sending huge hugs x

Re yiur question - the cervix is closed so stops infection harming baby. TMI but my infection mimicked a mc - both dark and bright red bleeding, cramping & small clots. So many women bleed during pg. Fingers crossed for you this pm.

Thanks very much all of you. DH is coming home and going to hosp with me this afternoon. I don't know whether they'll scan today or not.

Bicnod - I'll also keep my fingers crossed for you.

I'm lucky that DS is with my MIL today - although it's his first Christmas play tomorrow and I'll be devastated if I can't see it!!

SuchStuff Mon 13-Dec-10 12:01:31

Also thanks for comments about infection - that has helped me feel better about that little bit!

UnpureAsTheDrivenSHOW Mon 13-Dec-10 12:05:29

SuchStuff, I would imagine they will scan you this afternoon to see what is happening.

I know how worried you are. It's such a terrifying thing seeing blood in the first trimester. And as others have said, while it isn't 'normal', it's very common indeed and there are myriad reasons why it can happen. Sadly, there's no way of knowing until you've been checked over. I can add my name to the pile of 'bled but pregnancy fine' if that helps reassure you.

I'll be thinking of you and Bicnod this afternoon and hoping for some good news.

Dexterrocks Mon 13-Dec-10 12:07:21

I had a gush of blood, like a balloon had burst inside me, just as you describe Bicnod at 7 weeks and when I was rushed in for a scan there was still a tiny little heart beat there. Don't give up hope.
Suchstuff many women I know have spotting and go on to have healthy pregnancies. Try to keep yourself distracted for as long as you can before you go for your appointment. Don't do anything too strenuous though - keep it calm.
Fingers well and truely crossed for you both.

Bicnod Mon 13-Dec-10 12:14:36

SuchStuff - so glad your DH is coming home and going with you to hospital. Are you still bleeding now?

Unpure and Dexter - thank you. I'm trying to stay positive. MN is quite a good distraction!

SuchStuff Mon 13-Dec-10 12:34:11

Not really - a tiny bit of light brown spotting but nothing else at the mo.

Thanks again for all your comments - I know there's nothing I can do but you've helped me calm down a bit.

Bicnod Mon 13-Dec-10 12:36:34

That sounds positive SuchStuff - I was told that brown spotting was indicative of old blood, maybe left over from implantation and only just coming out.

Not long to wait now x

SuchStuff Mon 13-Dec-10 13:08:37

Thanks Bicnod. What time is your scan?

Bicnod Mon 13-Dec-10 13:32:27

2.40pm. Will post when get back. Fingers crossed for both of us x

LadyBiscuit Mon 13-Dec-10 13:35:37

I had a huge gush of bright red blood at 15 weeks which slowed down but carried on for the rest of the day on and off. They have no idea what caused it but my DS is now nearly 4 so please don't give up hope until you've had your scan. I feel so much for you both - the wait is agonising. Really hope all is okay.

SuchStuff Mon 13-Dec-10 13:49:39

Absolutely Bicnod x

UnpureAsTheDrivenSHOW Mon 13-Dec-10 14:29:58

I'm thinking of you both at the moment and will continue to do so.

No new here - they said the earliest scan I can have is Friday morning and that I wasn't far enough along for any other tests. I am still only spotting at the mo, so trying not to worry too much.

Thanks again for all your comments - in the few years I've been an MNer, you've always come up trumps in all sorts of situations. I've been feeling fairly rubbish today and having some people to talk to had definitely helped.

Bicnod - thinking of you x

metalelephant Mon 13-Dec-10 16:16:51

hello SuchStuff, I will be eagerly waiting to hear good news on Friday, now if only I could send you some cake via the internet.. x

UnpureAsTheDrivenSHOW Mon 13-Dec-10 16:28:23

SuchStuff, if you have any more bleeding or pain or feel unwell, please see your GP and ask for a faster referral. I'm sure there's no need to worry but don't be afraid to ask for help if anything changes or anything like the above happens.

I was in the same situation as you but the bleeding worsened and the GP actually sent me to A&E and I was sent to the gynae ward for a scan. Like I said, all was okay.

It's such a worrying time for you.

Bicnod Mon 13-Dec-10 16:31:39

Hi SuchStuff - sorry they won't scan you until Friday Will keep fingers and toes crossed for you for then. Spotting without cramps sounds very positive. Hang in there.

Good news here - saw a baby with a heartbeat and little budlike arms waving around. Measuring 9+3 so a bit smaller than I expected but it's there. Feeling very relieved and completely wiped out. They said they couldn't see where the bleeding came from and that sometimes it just happens.

Keep us up to date SuchStuff, and if you need to talk then post on this thread. Sending huge hugs, chocolate and more cake x

SuchStuff Mon 13-Dec-10 16:38:14

Bicnod, that's brilliant news! I'm very happy for you! Thanks - esp for the chocolate! There will be plenty of that tonight, I can assure you of that!

Thanks for all advice and other offers of cake - I will def update you all, hopefully with good news on Fri x
