Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Think I am miscarrying at 12 weeks. What can I expect?

Started bleeding 2 nights ago and have been since with stomach cramps. Blood is sometimes fresh but mostly very dark brown. Not very heavy but constant. Went to a&e today on advice of midwife but the consultant told the triage nurse I could wait another 5 days for my scheduled 12 week scan as not bleeding heavily and was sent home .Pretty certain this is the beginning of a miscarriage but I have no idea what to expect over the next week.Am going to phone midwifes tommorow to try and get earlier scan but just want to know what I might have to go through.

You sound worried and that is ok. Bleeding in pregnancy is a scary thing.
In my experience, try not to over worry unless the bleeding gets a lot heavier and jam/clot like. Easier said than done I know.
Call your midwife tomorrow to check in and let her know what the Dr said at A&E. You could ask for a scan to put your mind at rest.
Take it easy over the next few days and don't go into work.
Hope it is just a blip.

Contact the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit at hyour local hospital. They are generally pretty eager to help, and really rather more sympathetic to people needing to know what's going on. If you have pain or fainting/dizziness, go straight back to A&E or out of hours doctor.

I second going to your early pregnancy unit. Give them a ring to check if you need a GP referral and if you do you should be able to get a same day appointment.

A lot of EPAUs don't need a GP referral if you are actually bleeding at the time.

Yes, call EPAU.

Good luck. :)

To answer your question - if it is a miscarriage, the bleeding will probably eventually move to a heavy flow, with quite large clots. You will possibly have quite bad cramps, my natural MC was like a mini-labour, I had to keep pacing to bear it until I passed the sac (on the toilet). You are further along than I was, so if the pain is too much I would go to the maternity unit or to A&E and insist on care until it's over.
I truly hope that it is not a MC. Obviously it's a horrendous thing to happen both physically and emotionally.

I had to get a referral from GP when bleeding... Was a bit shocked TBH

Beckmo, do ring your EPU. Tell them you are bleeding heavily - they will do a scan if you are bleeding heavily (not just spotting) and if there is fresh red blood (not just brown old blood) and if you are cramping. Just don't minimise any symptoms. All the very best of luck. xxx

Any news beckmo?

Our EPU requires a referral. You can't phone or turn up. And it's usually a wait of a few days at least for a scan.

I do hope you're okay.

So sorry for not getting back sooner. Thanks for your replies. My question was answered pretty quickly after posting.Woke up after going to bed losing loads of blood stained fluid and then actually passed the sac. Luckily on the toilet at the time and as had been asleep pretty woozy.Still utterly awful but as I had been bleeding on and off for a couple of days and was having period pains not entirely unexpected.
Turned up at the EPU the next morning at 8.30am and they were great. Scanned me withing an hour and were lovely.Still had a little left in me but no need for follow up. Past few days would have been crap without brilliant friends and 2 DD's as bleeding laods, lots of clots and bad cramps.
I was so scared of not knowing what would happen but the hardest bit hasn't really been the (admittedly disturbing) physical bit but the adjusting to not being pregnant anymore.
