thats it basically. I've been feeling hideous for the best part of each month for months on end. After having a couple of meltdowns recently I went back to the gp tonight and she is going to give me one of these and change my ad's again too.

So, what does it do for you? I really don't want to hear the negative stuff, I know some but I really need to hear the postives please. ta very much

LOVE mine. Had v heavy bleeding after having dd. Now, no bleeding AT ALL, no pain, nothing. And none of the side-effects some people complain about

No weight gain.
Light/ practically non existent periods.
PMS drastically reduced.

bloody great.

thank you, thats just what I need to hear. PMS (that lasts all month) is my main problem. Was told 9 years ago that I was peri-menopausal (very long story) and after various tests and biopsies, I was told tonight that i'm probabaly not , just that they failed to tell me. So I can't put the blame on that, just have horrendous pmt, weepy, angry, can't sleep yadda yadda yadda.

Any more positives? thanks

Hardly any PMT and a period every 8-10 weeks that's barely noticeable. That's the two things that stop me having it removed but the possible side effects should be taken into account...really!

oh having mine fitted tomorrow. Feeling a bit apprehensive but hopefully it will be worth it.

Well hopefully it will settle your moods. I felt 'normal' for the first time in years after having mine fitted. I still occasionally get a bit of PMT, but really not much at all and it's more weepy than angry when it happens and I used to get so irrational that it's a wonder anyone put up with me, but that's a dim and distant memory

have had a Mirena for nearly 16 years (not the same one obviously), since they were trialled. Fantastic fantastic fantastic. Am taking mine to my grave.

No periods at all for 15+ years
no PMT
Don't remember about weight gain but my BMI is under 21 so you can be slim and have one
Don't think it made me hairy - think that is just old age and genetics and I know far hairier people than me (and not just men)
Can't forget to take it, vomit it up, leave it at home when going on holiday etc etc
Insertion and removal over in seconds

The first 6 weeks were a bit of a pain - lots of spotting - but then it settled down and I've never looked back

. I so hope that's what happens for me, I really can't go on feeling this way. Brighter now than even 1st thing this morning when I could barely speak to my manager for weeping, its pants isn't it.........it could be the wine though

Saved me from a hysterectomy.
I'm on my second now and GP commented to me that the Mirena had massively reduced the number of women having major surgery for period problems.
I had worse and worse bleeding after my second child 11 years ago. It was horrendous.
All cured.
No side effects.
I have to admit though that the fitting was excruciating, but this may be due to my uterus tillting backwards.

great . I have to ring on Friday for an appointment. Though my periods can be awful at times, it's mainly to ease the horrendous month long pms really. I so hope it works, been put on notice of redundancy today (sort of welcomed) but another stress none the less.

How long did it take to kick in as i'm sure the gp said it can takes months? I find that a bit odd though

Effective immediately.

Report
cece · 30/09/2009 22:08

I was told it takes about 5 days to be effective. That is why they try to do it during your af so by the time it is finished it should be working.

It was slightly painful, like a mild cramping, but only alsted half an hour or so. I took some paracetamol beofre I left the house for my appointment.

Report
inthesticks · 01/10/2009 13:56

Sorry , you mean effective as a contraceptive , I misunderstood.

no, to level my hormones out, it's not being used a contraceptive essentially

I had my first fitted at the FPC and it was 1,2,3 AAARRGGGHH and over, and the second one done by my GP who took about 20 minutes and was more uncomfortable than painful. I took a Tramadol before I went and she said she wishes more of her patients were like me .

I didn't notice any changes in my PMT state until one day I realised I hadn't had any PMT since I had it fitted. I think I just felt normal and very grateful for it!

Report
Remotew · 01/10/2009 16:33

Mines been in for 7 years, need to get it removed soon.

First 6 weeks I bled heavily, then it's been fabulous. Hardly any bleeding, no PMT, just great.

What's all this about hairiness. Is that to do with the Mirena?
