Joint pain

Hi

I'm looking for some advice or tips for joint pain. I'm 46, last normal period was 25th December 2019 but had couple of month last year spotting in June and October. Just a small pink spot when wiped, otherwise I wouldn't of noticed.

Past couple of weeks I've noticed I can hardly get out of bed, every bone in my body hurts and in particular my wrists, I can hardly do my daily activities they hurt so bad.

I did try HRT for couple of weeks or maybe less than that but it made me feel wobbly and made me anxious so I stopped.

Any experience with good vitamins and natural remedies?

Watching this thread with interest because I'm in agony with my joints, mainly my hips and ankles but my goodness it's painful! It's as if I've lost all mobility in my hips, they are so stiff, I can't easily put my socks on or go up and down stairs, or step over things. If the cat darts in front of my and I have to change the path of where I'm going, it jolts my hip so badly and is agony.

I'm still getting a lot of normal periods but they are further apart. I'll have a big gap then a few regular months then a gap, for example I had the 12th of December for a week, then nothing till the 18th of Feb, then the 20th of March so I'm just waiting to see what happens this month. The pain is just unbelievable though, when I get out of bed in the morning, I can hardly hobble. That eases slightly as I move but I'm still so stiff all of the time and it is very painful to walk, particularly up or downhill.

I just want to be able to get about as normal. DH had been taking DD to school while he's been working at home but he is back in the office on the 26th so I'll be back to walking 4 miles a day, downhill and uphill, and I don't know how I'll cope.

Not much advice as yet on here Glitter but after a bit of research and looking at different reviews of vitamins I've decided to try Menopace Calcium. Im also trying changing my diet to lots of fish and green veg including spinach and broccoli. One thing I have change recently is my coffee intake, I seem to be drinking loads so I'm stopping that and having water. I need to make these changes now because if I don't I'm really going to struggle.

How old are you Glitter?

I have had all these symptoms and have tried everything I can think of but two years later it is still the same and it is really ruining my life.
Walking is difficult I really struggle if ground is uphill or downhill.

Just out of interest did you try HRT? If I see no changes after changing my diet, water intake and the vitamins then I will probably go back and try a different HRT. I can't cope with this, it will ruin my life and it scares me to think it could get worse and nothing can cure it 😔

I have tried three different HRT over the two years for at least six months each and although it has helped other symptoms there has been little change to the joint and mobility issue. I am willing to try anything the doctor although lovely has been no use to me.

I came on this board to see if there anything about joint pain, and here you are.

For the past few months I've had increasing pain in my elbows.
It has been waking me up at night. They feel weak and like they might give way with heavy lifting.

I am in perimenopause with irregular and heavier periods - some are closer together while others are further apart.

How do you know it's menopause and not something like arthritis?

My bone density is on the low side (shown in dexa scan some years ago).

Definitely not a cure all but I’ve been taking colllagen and my knee pain is much better. I still have a stiff lower back and hips but lying on a “bed of nails” mat helps that a bit (I’ve recently had a hysterectomy so not sure if the lower back and hip pain is related to things settling down again). I find less pain when I eat less sugar too.

@purpleben I'm 45.

I have had similar problems . Everyday brings a new pain. I have also more seriously had a stress fracture recently from too much running combined with low bone density probably linked to my age (early 50’s).
I am not on HRT largely because my symptoms have not been that serious but I am considering it now. In the meanwhile I have invested in some Regenovex capsules to see if they help. Only on day 8 so can’t comment yet but I will let you know if I see improvements

I came looking for advice on this too. I am in constant pain with my ankles, knees and hips. Also with pain in the muscles in the back of my thigh. Come last thing I have to go upstairs on my hands as I can't bear my own weight on my knees. I'm 49 and have been taking HRT for almost 2 years. This pain has only just started along with the worsening of other symptoms, such as stress incontinence, and worsening vaginal dryness. I'm on day 1 of a weight loss mission as I think that can only help ease the strain on my joints- I'm a stone and a half overweight. I'll read over all the comments carefully.

@Stirmecrazy I have had 3 stress fractures. I am a keen runner and in recovery from an eating disorder. It was after the 3rd SF I had a bone scan. This was a few years ago now and I'm wondering if I should have another one. I tick all the boxes for bone problems - older woman, white/asian, road runner, low body weight.

I haven't seen my GP about menopause as my symptoms are manageable (the joint pain is worrying rather than debilitating).

I swim now as well as run and cycle. I am worried that I've damaged myself with poor nutrition and putting my body under too much stress.

@TheOrigRights Wow 3 stress fractures what a nightmare. After initially injuring myself with mine I upped my calcium intake and started taking Calcium supplements (Caltrate) but because I am now taking the Regenovex I have temporarily stopped as I am scared that if I up my calcium too much I will end up with kidney stones I think I will eventually switch to every other day for the two. (Plus I also take menopace supplements)
It’s difficult in relation to exercise as I found running in particular really helped me with other menopause symptoms like anxiety , stress and rage so it’s so annoying that I am having all these injuries and joint pains
I think your programme of varying the exercise sounds good and I am going to introduce the same as I think too much stress on the same joints from running is not helping.

Concentrated Pomegranate juice!! I bought it from amazon. I dilute 10ml in water at breakfast. Before this I had sore knuckles, stiff hips and ankles, struggled to walk after getting out of bed, and couldn't cope with 8 mile hikes with dh, I was in pain after 4 miles, mostly my hips.
Now I'm back to 8 mile walks. Also it's meant I've felt able to start doing daily conditioning exercises which are making me stronger, so again walking gets easier.
(age 53, 2 periods in the last year. Still considering HRT for other reasons, but not got around to it yet)

I'm having my bloods done next week to rule out vit d deficiency as I'm so tired as well. If everything is ok I'm going to have another go at HRT. I don't want to be putting up with this if I don't have to. Just hope there is something that agrees with me and doesn't make me feel weird and detached.

I've had neck pain for the last 2 years. Had an x Ray but everything is OK apparently. It does get worse around my period. I'm 45 and have been taking novofem hrt for the last year but it hasn't helped. It's definitely hormonal but the dr says there's nothing to be done. So that's just great 🙄

I take naproxen every day for the pain but If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears.

You should get checked out for rheumatoid arthritis. That's exactly how mine started.

I found joint pain which for me was linked to menopause disappeared when I started using (small amounts) of testosterone gel - Tostran- as part of hrt regime

I had this! I had a blood test for rheumatoid arthritis but it came back negative. Some days I couldn’t actually write as not only did I have pain but my hand was unable to grip a pen. Not easy for a teacher! I had a few months on Naproxen, and my joints have been pretty ok now for a couple of years. (i also bought a new bed with a memory foam mattress and think that made a difference)

Holy Cow!

I came on this board looking for the bit about joint pain too and specifically the weird feeling in my elbows!

You've described it exactly the way I feel which is that I worry that they'll snap with heavy lifting.

I have no idea if it's an arthritic pain or whether it has anything to do with the perimenopause. I'm 50 and still having regular periods (grr) but every day brings on a new ache.

I'm glad I am not alone.

@amigababy which one did you get, if you don't mind me asking? Had a quick look on amazon but there are quite a few, with mixed reviews! Thank you in advance.

Fish oil capsules two or three times a day and curcumin capsules twice a day, also. But started with increasing my normal daily dose of fish oil and within a few weeks all my hinges stopped aching, surprisingly.

Thank you unwuthering

I shall pick up some fish oil, curcumin (though I need to look up what this actually is!), and some pomegranate juice.

I'd really like to try natural remedies.

They've actually not been so bad lately - is it cyclic maybe?
