Sandrena vs Oestrogel

GP has prescribed me Sandrena 0.5mg sachet once per day. I've been on it two months and it does seem to have helped with the overwhelming lethargy and generally not be bothered about anything apart from lying on the sofa watching TV symptoms!

However 0.5mg seems to be quite a low dose - most people seem to be on two pumps of oestrogel. Does anyone know how much two pumps is in mgs and how it compares to Sandrena? Initial googling is that a pump of oestrogel is 0.75mg, so two pumps would be 1.5mg which is a lot more than I am taking (I think).

Yes you are right.
Suggested starting dose for gel is 2 pumps but I started on 1 and had to increase to 2 to get night sweats sorted.

0.50mgs is a very low dose so you might be best asking if you can use Oestrogel which is in a pump so no fiddly sachets and you can press the pump halfway to get a half dose (approx) if needed.

Thanks, you are very helpful. I thought it was a low dose but it has made a difference already.

My gp did this. I rang him and told him 1.5 is the starting dose so he changed the prescription. It was easy. It was someone on here that told me it should be 1.5mg.

Thanks. Just did a bit of digging and it does sound like the starting dose is 1mg for Sandrena. I'll discuss when they review it next month. But even 0.5mg has helped which is great.

Anyone help. Been on 1.5 sandrena gel and utro for 5/6 weeks still feel awful.

GP prescribed daily utro so for first 2 weeks I used both. Then review with GP said I should only be using it for days 15 to 26. So next 2 weeks I just used the gel and noticed my flushes reduce and my sleep slightly improved, still irritable and anxious and achey etc
Then next 12 days I used 200 daily utro and I began to feel worse and my sleep worsened.
I've just finished the 12 days utro and now just on gel and I feel just as bad as when I started 5/6 ,weeks ago.

Surely I should be feeling better after 5/6 weeks of gel and almost 4 weeks now of utro which people have told me helps sleep etc.

Thanks

@Micha1972 Might be better to start your own thread for more replies as this one is about estrogel v sandrena?

My experience is that using Utrogestan vaginally reduces the symptoms a lot. My meno consultant suggested this. It's used that way all over Europe but not the UK for some weird reason. You just push the 2 capsules in as high as possible at bedtime, or daytime but make sure they don't gravitate out.

Also, if you are one of those women very sensitive to side effects, you can reduce the dose to 10 days but your GP will be going by the rule book, although private consultants have more leeway.

Thanks that really helps. I've booked to see a private specialist as it appears the best way.
