Menopause

Sex and peri menopause - natural remedies

Hello all

I’m 54 and the peri menopause has finally caught up with me. Exercise is helping massively with hot flashes and insomnia, hurrah.

However, having been single for 6 years following divorce, last year I unexpectedly met a lovely man and sex is back on the agenda Smile. All was great until about a month ago and since then sex is becoming painful.
Are there any natural remedies I can try? I wanted to discuss this with my Gynae as she’s also a homeopath but with the lockdown it’s not to easy to even speak to hers
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I don't know of any natural remedies, unfortunately. The best lubricant I've heard of is Sylk, so that might help.

What you might need is an oestrogen replacement, and for that you will need to see your GP. You'll need either vagifem pessaries or ovestin cream. Both work. They are HRT in a very tiny dose.

I've gone through menopause easily enough just using vitamin supplements for menopausal symptoms, which have been very mild for me, I've been lucky. However, I do need vagifem. It makes things altogether more comfortable.

Vaginal atrophy isn't much talked about as a symptom of menopause, but it happens to lots of women and unless it's treated it gets worse. So if I were you, I'd talk to your GP as soon as you can.

Sylk is good. You can get it on Amazon. Browse on lovehoney as well for lube.

Yep, Sylk is good, as is Yes. I found using a vibrator daily helped too, to keep the elasticity going, if you will. Use it or lose it kinda thing!! However, whilst this helped a bit, things only really improved when I tried Vagifem. I didn't embark on this lightly, as I'm very anti hrt (for me, not in general) but I read about it a lot and decided to try it and it's made a big difference.

Never tried it but read somewhere that the supplement sea buckthorn oil helps.
