Is this a thing with the menopause?

Had a UTI last summer which was treated with 7 days of standard meds ever since my bladder seems to have gone into overdrive, no pain or that awful dragging feeling nor no floating bits or blood but I constantly feel like I need to pee and when I do it stings and feels uncomfortable. I always seem to have more to pee even after 10/20 mins of going.

Currently taking otc cystitis sachets to see if would neutralise and help but 3 sachets in, it isn't making much difference.

I do drink 1.5 - 2 litres of water, don't drink coffee and only one cup of tea a day.

Due to see GP in a few weeks to discuss hormone levels and hopefully HRT treatment. I'm 43 and suffering very badly with night sweats, hair loss, greasy oil slick skin with acne and my libido has dropped off the planet. Night sweats have become unbearable in last 6 or so months.
I had a hysterectomy in my early 30s but kept ovaries.

Is the constant peeing thing something to add to the long bloody list to take to the GP?

(P.S - am not a pee troll Hmm )

It could be interstitial cystitis. Or it could just be that it didn't get cleared properly and is lingering.

I'm pre menopause but UTIs can certainly be more common as you get older.

Thanks for posting @Doyou - I will keep an eye on it and if needs be get to the GP swiftly.
If I'm busy it doesn't seem as bad, so I'm wondering if it is me going slightly bonkers with it.

It could be an embedded uti 😔

If the antibiotics didn't complete get rid of the uti, it can become embedded in your bladder. The problem then, is that it won't show up when they test your urine and doctors will tell you you there's no infection.

If you're on Facebook, have a look at this group for some more information.

@HowlsMovingBungalow yes it could very well be down to lack of estrogen. There's a lot to cover here but best thing for you to do is google vaginal atrophy which isn't just about vaginas, but about all the area around it including your bladder. The lining is healthy when it has a good supply of estrogen. Without it, the lining thins and you can get infections or just the need to wee a lot.

Here is one link to have a look at.

Even though you kept your ovaries, they are known to fail often withing a few years of hysterectomy.

You most likely do not have an ongoing infection, but need vaginal estrogen and also full HRT to stop your night sweats and other symptoms.

It's really common @HowlsMovingBungalow Loads of women get this and many suffer for years and years being given ABs when all that is needed is vaginal cream/ small pessaries which will sort it.

Sounds like interstitial cystitis - amitryptiline really helps but it's prescription only!

Thanks for your answers and links - I don't think I have an infection as the meds seem to clear up the UTI really quickly last year.

I will read your links @JinglingHellsBells! Sounds like it could be yet another symptom for me, I have noticed a lack of lubrication and a uncomfortable feeling.

Feeling bloody fed up with it tbh.

Thanks all!

Watching with interest. What is interstitial cystitis?I have the GP ringing me thur as I have to pee so often it's driving me crazy.
I've always gone quite a bit and had realised my bladder doesn't always empty fully first time.
I want advice before I do actually start to pee myself.

No advice @whatisforteamum but feel the frustration with it all.
Have you got any other symptoms? Interested to hear what the GP says to you.

I was refered to the Continence Pathway by my gp for the same symptom, I am similar age to you .
I was given Vagifem suppositories which in my case didn't help, but it could be what you need.
It was an utter ball ache getting that far, I had to try all the steps in the Pathway before they would prescribe them and being grumpy because I constantly want to wee certainly didn't help. I've now been told to come back when I've stopped breastfeeding my ds as there are no further options available right now.

Her0utdoors - That sounds utterly crap for you. I have had Vagifem prescribed before, a few years after my hysterectomy when having dryness issues.
