Menopause

SUCH painful boobs on HRT

I've been on HRT for almost two years now (Elleste Duet). I'm 44. When I first started on the pills, I'd not had a period for several months and I was suffering terrible symptoms (night sweats, confusion, pain in my arms, insomnia etc etc).

The GP said I'd have a withdrawal bleed on the pills every month which I did. Initially I had really tender boobs but that settled down and my symptoms all disappeared.

Then, gradually the withdrawal bleeds stopped, until about April last year, I stopped having them altogether.

So all good - until March this year when I suddenly started having monthly bleeds again. And now my boobs are SO tender and painful - they even wake me up in the night. I do a lot of exercise and it's very uncomfortable.

My question is - could the formula for Elleste have changed?! Or has the way I react to it changed? Has anyone else suffered in a similar way? Should I go back to my GP?

Maybe you need a lower dose? I guess that the way your body react to hrt has changed.
Actually breast tenderness isn’t a contradiction for hrt but I think that you can discuss it with your gyn.

as you are only 44 your peri meno was classed as premature. The Daisy Network (online) has info on this. It's possible your own ovaries are waking up for one last push and the sore boobs is due to your own cycle kicking in. Also, if you are on 1mg estrogen it might be too low for a woman your age which is why you aren't getting a bleed- bleeds respond to the amount of estrogen. Maybe try a 2mg dose?
