Utrogestan and pmt symptoms

Hi . I’m currently taking oestrogel which is fantastic but when I have to do the 12 days of utrogestan I turn into a moody anxious nightmare . Is this normal ??

Yes, it is a side effect of Utrogestan.
You can give it more time and if it does't suit you, you can try a different progestin.
Actually Utrogestan is considered the safest one.

I had similar issues but then took it as a pessary instead and that was fine. It's exactly the same tablet, regardless of which end it goes in! If you go on Menopause Matters, you will find lots about this.

I’ve just started on this too and am finding it ok apart from the exhaustion, hoping I will get used to it.

I’m peri menopausal so still having periods . Main reason for hrt was aches and pains and dryness !! Oestrogel has sorted all that . Hairs also stopped shredding but this utrogestan is hard work . I’ve tried vaginally this month and much much better but I’m anxious and moody and evil . I’m on day 6 so wondering if I should lower the dose currently 200 mg but as it’s vaginally it could be absorbing more than if I take it orally ?? I’ll go into menopausal mattters and see if there’s anything helpful .

I was very similar to you, peri menopausal and struggling to find something that worked. eventually I tried a new contraceptive pill called Qlaira which is aimed at 'older' women in peri menopause. It's much less potent than the usual pill and the estrogen is bio identical, so far more like HRT. It's fairly new in the UK and very expensive so you will probably have to push to get it, but for me it's been so worth it!

I had to stop her because of it. It wasn't as bad when taking 1 pill but when realised it had to be two it was horrendous for various reasons.

In the end the minimal benefits of oestrogen didn't make up for the nightmare of the progesterone.

@slatey20 I use 100mg vaginally for 10-14 days. Two pumps oestrogel everyday.

I was getting very ragey on 200mg as I’m sensitive to progesterone. I used to get awful pmt.

Uterine wall scans tell that a local pessary of lower dose works to keep my endometrium in check, and I’ve no problems with mood on this lower dose, fewer days, vaginal pessary regimen.

Maybe have a chat with your GP about lowering th dose and having an ultrasound scan to see if it’s keeping the womb lining thin? Hth

My GP had prescribed 100mg and that first month was just about bearable but I was told on a forum that 100mg is not correct and although it could be ok, it would require regular monitoring, so went back to GP and he said he would just up to 200mg. I wouldn't trust the system to get regular scans.

Two months on 200mg, vaginally was hell for me and not worth the very small benefits of the ostreogen. Strangely, I fell best I had in more than a year since coming off it totally.
