Just before Christmas I started to have symptoms including feeling anxious and a racing heart beat. I also had 2 heavy periods really close together. After Christmas I vowed to slim down and get fit as I thought I was entering menopause. I am 47. Since then I have lost a stone and half and am feeling really fit and healthy. However, I have had a few anxiety attacks since then. Also, I have started to sweat loads at night and cry at things I would not normally. My periods are also getting lighter and nearer together.
After a really bad week, I made an appointment to see my GP about the anxiety and that I cannot sleep well. She advised CBT and gave me a packet of Beta Blockers to use when I know I have a stressful event coming up. I was a bit about the CBT as I am having anxiety attacks (or a fast heart beat when stressed) but do not feel depressed. In fact, I have never been happier in my life.
I just received the results from my 4 blood tests including hormone levels, iron, thyroid tests and full blood count. All was normal - no action except the hormone test which has come back as Borderline- Peri menopausal. I was told by the receptionist that the doctor who signed off the results to me said I can have an appointment to discuss if I want.
My Q is, what do I do now? If I am borderline peri, even though I feel like crap and can't sleep do I ask for the doctors help or do I start and see what I can do for myself? If I need to do anything I would prefer to go the natural route first.
